Yes... I love the classics! Beethoven, Mozart, Debussy, Handel, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Bach... etc. Not a big fan of Stravinsky though, he was a little dissonant for my taste.

The first time Mrs. CG and I "did it" (almost 21 years ago now) was to Dvorak's Symphony no 9 "From The New World". I have a rather extensive collection actually...

I played Trombone in high School and NO, I never did anything "creative" with it! LOL!

I"ve never heard of Jonas Kaufmann, but he's nowhere at the calibre of Hvorostovsky's voice.
There's something about the quality of Kaufmann's voice that is a bit off.

Unfortunately Hvorostovsky is no longer with us. (1962 - 2017)

Kaufmann started his career as a helgentenor, putting the wow factor in his performances both at Bayreuth and The Met. Then he switched course into Italian. Normally a very difficult transition, he had the advantage of being from Munich. With it's large Italian population he would have been exposed to Italian singing at a very young age. His documentary on his journey through Italy is still aired on TLN.

It worked for him.

Lara Fabian is a Canadian (who knew?) and here she writes lyrics to Albinoni's Adagio critiqued by Tim Welsh


My critique is the lyrics fall short of the piece.They should be more mystical like fine poetry allowing the listener to decide what the words mean.

It is optional to pronounce the "i" in adagio which she chose not to. While it is her art, including the "i" would have been better allowing her amazing voice to linger on the end of the word adagio thus giving more depth to the word, and by extension the whole piece .

Notice at 5:41she does something daring and original - a soft exhale to end the song. Nice touch.

I will allow my opinion on Fabian's voice be influenced by Welsh and agree she is a level above next level. Welsh showed me the subtleties in her voice changes I would not of noticed

My thoughts on Tim Welch, the voice coach, is he should be on those talent shows as a judge instead of those personalities that do not understand voice and do a disservice to the singers and the listeners

Not a great voice but a great gritty voice for grunge and she explains how hard it is for singers to dwell in the emotions of their personal songs they play over and over

She identifies with this as an opera singer as the songs they sing are of deep pain
