My former best friend married very young and has 3 kids - soccer mom hair cut... happy and believes her faith to be responsible for her current situation in life. Good for her - but I just can't understand how she believes her cookie cutter existence to be more holy than the relationship between other friends I am close with who've been monogamous and together for years... (but they're both men).
I'm sincerely curious how parents address homosexuality with their children....
What is your take on this anti-bullying legislation?
I posted this on my Facebook today. My former best friend (From Elementary School), who is deeply-religious wrote me an angry note wondering why I was criticizing the Catholic Faith. I know this can be tossed in with a few of the other Religion-based threads but.... I'm curious - what are your thoughts on exposing your children to the fact that some people are gay? I personally intend to let my (future) children know early-on that sometimes two men or two women love one another and get married - just like sometimes a man and a woman love one another and get married.... I have lotsa Gay friends so it would be silly for me not to introduce my kids to reality.A private group of Catholic parents is worried Ontario’s proposed anti-bullying legislation, Bill 13, will force the religious schools their children attend to change fundamental Church teachings on homosexual behaviour.
“Our concern is that this anti-bullying legislation is meant to bring a change in the Catholic curriculum,” said Teresa Pierre, director of Ontario Catholic Parent Advocates, which wants to see Bill 13 dropped. “We are concerned about the potential erosion of Catholic principles.
“The province’s goal is to change Catholic social teaching in our schools under the cause of ending homophobia. I think they’re following the momentum of a social agenda that has been at work for the past 10 years.”
Bill 13 would require all school boards to implement policies that combat bullying and “promote a positive school climate that is inclusive and accepting of all pupils, including pupils of any race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status or disability.” It also calls for “activities or organizations that promote the awareness and understanding of, and respect for, people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, including organizations with the name gay-straight alliance or another name.”
