Many players have done what she did only to return to being fairly average. I don't know a single female tennis player other than Serena Williams. I don't see her as a long term threat. Hope I'm wrong.

It will depend on how her body adjusts as an adult. If it stays brittle then you're probably right.

Naomi Osaka is 23 and passed her transitional phase, Bianca is a 21 Century baby. Osaka is actually 17 days younger than Auston Mathews, both had a rash of injuries while they transitioned. Both have been injury free since becoming adults. Leylah Fernanadez is 18, her transition period may be shorter since she's not as muscular as Bianca. Wait and see.

And yet you feel qualified to make these pronouncements? Very illogical, Captain.

I think she needs at least 3 majors or she'll be a disappointment overall.

How can you say that? This is so brutal. Let's just say she's the best ever canadian tennis player and just hope for the best for the future. She's in now way a disappointment and never will.

15 months isn't enough?
I get the feeling that there is more than what they are releasing here.

She's been in hard training since she was 12 and then catapulted to stardom in a short period of time.

Perhaps along with her knee injury she was also a little mentally fatigued as well. Being under the spot light can have its pressures and at a young age I'm not sure how one has the experience to deal with it. Throw in the covid issues and there's potentially a lets take some time off decision was made by her and her team.

3 WTA singles titles, including a major, so no she's not a one hit wonder.

The WTA and ITF have an "age 16 rule".

"2019 Age Eligibility Rule (AER) Highlights:
A 16-year-old may play up to 12 professional events (WTA & ITF Women's Circuit), WTA Championships (if she qualifies), plus Fed Cup. A 17-year-old may play up to 16 professional events (WTA & ITF Women's Circuit), WTA Championships (if she qualifies), plus Fed Cup"

We sometimes forget that she was only 19 when she had her best year in 2019. She started that year with an injured shoulder and ended it with an injured knee. Maybe some load management was needed. Tennis unlike many other sports is 11 months (not 6 or 7) a year. Maybe raise the age to 20?

(For people who don't understand "load management", I would suggest looking up Kawhi Leonard.)

"Since before joining the LA Clippers, Kawhi Leonard participated in a load management plan that involved never playing both games of a back to back, to avoid aggravating an injured knee. ... It was the first time the Klaw appeared in both games of a b2b since 2017, when he was still a Spur.Jan 7, 2021"

I'm thinking maybe raising the "age 16" rule to age 20 on a phase in basis. IMHO I think young female players are subject to too much pressure and this takes a physical, mental and emotional toll. Just look up Tracy Austin, Andrea Jagger, Jennifer Capriati, Mary Pierce, Jolena Dokic, maybe even Sweet Caroline and the Williams sisters, etc.

That's exactly my point, there hasn't been a female player of any significance in 15 years.

The only thing that matters to the elite in golf and tennis 🎾 is majors.
