Part of the problem for Canadian athletes is the pressure fans put them in...Bianca and this newcomer Leila Fernandez are very new to the scene...yes they are winning and they have great talents...but Canadian media need to ease down on the spotlight...let them play their game, their building up too much drama on these athletes...

Two Canadian born youngsters in Leylah Fernandez and Emma Raducanu in the finals. That is sensational. Have to set my PVR as it is a pity that I will not be able to watch it live.
Both these youngsters are not phased by the media coverage in any manner.

This isn't true at all. Pro athletes can either handle pressure or they can't, nothing to do with fans. Fan abuse is another thing. Some are good enough to place middle of the pack their whole careers and still become wealthy and are fine with that. The elite athletes have another gear. That is what separates Bianca and Fernandez imo.

meh...both Bianca and Fernandez are quite new, that's the reason some rookies that turned pro never really blossomed because of the pressure....how many top #1 picks in the NBA busted? it's the same thing....let them play their game, let them settle in, as soon as they get more experience, they will just get better....Bouchard is one example I can think of....

Womens tennis has a long history of "one-hit wonders", a young player who comes out of the bushes to win or make a final of a major...some stay around for awhile thou.

Well, she won the US open so it's a mighty big hit. Watching this years US open one can see there are plenty of good players on the womens side who can win it. It's not like Andreescu is heads above anyone else.

Last night, I think that they said that 14 different women had won the last 19 majors.

It’s hard to predict how young athletes will do. I remember Tracy Austin’s career started out strong but then she experienced injury problems. Same thing for Anna Kournikova- she made it to the semis at Wimbledon as a teenager but then never really got close again after that. Same sorta thing for Jennifer Capriati when she got into trouble with the police along with drug issues and she dropped off the tour at a young age.

I’m not suggesting Bianca isn’t gonna get better as she matures. I like her and I hope she does but it’s never a sure thing…the pro tour can be really demanding.
