He could have been a gold threat but the Nigerian runner beside him pulled up with a seized hamstring. He had no marker for the last 4.5 M of the race. Not sure why he was running in the far outside lane, when Donovan Bailey won, he was in the 5th block, de Grasse was in the 9th. The gold medallist Lamont Jacobs benefited by having an Italian mother. He was fresh, he didn't expend his energy competing against American sprinters in the trials.

The 2 fastest qualifiers get the middle lanes, all other lanes are random draws.
Having a fast marker makes the difference, Donovan Bailey knew what he had to do in the last 50 M.

Melissa Bishop is from a small town south of Pembroke Ontario, she trains at the York U Athletic Club. Sage Watson doesn't get her level of press. She's from Medicine Hat Alberta, she trains at Arizona St University.
It is fairly common for Canadian athletes to attend American universities (presumably on athletic scholarships). I notice Maggie MacNeil attends Michigan.
2 lifetimes ago, someone I know attended St. Lawrence University (probably also on an athletic scholarship). The current tuition fee is north of US$58,000.
He won silver in the 200m at Rio, he has the 6th fastest time this year in that event, he should medal.
He gets out clean but I think his lack of big muscle keeps him from blasting out like some of the bigger guys.
He's one of the most beautiful runners I've ever seen, his form is flawless.

Congrats to De Grasse. Slow start but damn did he really come on in the 2nd half of the race. Tough to do especially in the outside lane.
