Continuing the tradition of the last couple of years and with the start of the EPL in a couple of days I thought I would start up this again. So many questions to answer a great upcoming season, can Man City repeat? how good is Man Utd? will Liverpool be back amongst the elite, and holy crap I just read that Arsenal have sold AVP to Man Utd!! If I was them I would take that money, take my lumps till January and get Ferdinand Llorente from Athletic Bilbao when he walks away for absolutely nothing as his contract ends.

oh yeah and apparently there are rumours of other countries have leagues of their own, something about Spain, Italy or Germany, I overheard people talking about it, didnt really pay attention :D
soccer would be so much more enjoyable to watch if the field was much smaller!

did you accidentally wander into this thread thinking it was a discussion group for Oski Wee Wee or what kind of pucks the Leafs used in practice last Wednesday? the game is perfect as is, yes there should be goal line technology implemented as is, but no changes should be made so that it turns into a 1983 game between the Buffalo Stallions against the Pittsburgh Spirit.

The less said about the Honduran fiasco the better, except that the top brass at the CSA must fall on their swords. Bob Iarusci has had a plan in place to get Canada into the WC but his efforts have been stymied by the bad blood he has with Bob Lenarduzzi.

Now that opposing teams know about Germany's Achilles Heels, team than can will exploit it.

Denmark went with the same game plan they used at Euro2004 only this time the outcome was different. DDR got spiked in the stomach in the 20th minute, spent another 2 minutes dry heaving then returned to action. Denmark scored a deserved goal at the close of the half and a minute into the restart Osvaldo got red card for a retaliatory punch on Stokholm. It appeared to be deja vu all over again. Yet being reduced to 10 men lit a fire under Mario Balotelli and took control of the match. Not only holding the line as the lone striker he also dropped back to tighten the midfield when the Danes attempted to break out. It was the best football I have ever seen him play. Daniel Agger and Simon Kjaer will not be of much use to their clubs this weekend they now know what it feels like to be in a fight.

every single head of the CSA needs to resign and they need to start over after this despicable debacle. I dont care that they lost a match, it's the way they lost it, 2 shots on goal in 90 freaking minutes!!!! the CSA is lucky that the vast majority in this country dont care about the national side, if this was another of the other 100 or so nations where soccer is a huge deal, you better believe that the crowds with pitchforks and torches would be gathering.

The program is a complete joke and in shambles, where do you even start? Let's say you bring in a mercenary coach like a Gus Hiddinik, why would anyone want to take this job since you have nothing to work with? the talent simply isnt there. The CSA is going to cry about how hostile crowds and lack of funding boo hoo wa wa!!! Jurgen Klinsmann gets 2.5 million a year to basically coach 9 matches, you are telling me that not a single sponsor of a large corporation cares enough in this country to step up and pony up that kind of cash to get a half decent coach?

Some have suggested getting out of the 1950 British way that the CSA runs and more like the present Dutch, Spanish and countless other nations that run youth programs, whereby you find talent as young as 15 and you develop them. Well seeing how that game set us back about 10 years, that seems to be the only way to go. Sorry lads for the rant, I am just so disgusted and tired of hearing the excuses since 1986 where we basically parachuted into a WC and the future looks really bleak

^^^^^ it would help if Canada had some type of farm league that could feed the MLS. And I mean a league that pays decent wages like division1 in Europe or something

I agree with everything Scouser and Von have to say.

I can't even fathom a remedy to this since I'm just picking myself up off the ground.

I'm impressed by scouser1 comments, if you get to The Queen and the Beaver I'll buy you a pint.

I'm also impressed by the work Didier Deschamps is doing with Les Blu. If he can instill his grit into the club, France will be dangerous in Brazil. When Juventus last won the Champions Cup he and Antonio Conte were part of the midfield.

On a final note. If Italy is home and cooled by the spring then Prandelli must rest Pirlo and Verratti a chance to showcase his talents. Maybe moving to Ligue 1 was the best option for him, he's paying for himself at PSG. Don Draper, I'm speaking from the heart when I say this - I WANT A REMATCH.

I just might hold you to that pint :) and France is coming back after the last disaster of a WC, but I honestly cannot see a European team winning on South American soil, Brazil, Argentina even Uruguay should be the favourites. On a side not if UEFA doesnt bring the hammer down on Serbia and their football association for that despicable display against England, then they should be disbanded. I cannot believe in this day and age in 2012, the 21st century, scum bags think it's perfectly acceptable to come to a football match and make monkey noises!!!

This seems to be rampant in Eastern Europe where a mix of bad economics, homogenous societies and a rise in right wing extremism all make a bad combo when mixed with football, I am just waiting and hoping it's not a joke fine like they did last time.

Dont think its ever happened, has it?? (too lazy to google it).

Only Germany and Spain have a realistic shot at making the final IMO

Yes the racism is regrettable but where do you think they got it from?

the Britain of 1980 and the one of 2012 are vastly different places, not saying all Brits are lovey dovey Nelson Mandelas, but a comment below said it best about that crowd "council housing chav crybabies" Translated into Canadian that is welfare trash whiners.

Back to the beautiful game, no European team has ever won a World Cup in South America but Brazil did win one in 1958 in Sweden.

I agree it will be very hard for a European team to win the WC in SA.

My problem though is that the news I tend to get is very euro-focused and I tend not to get enough information to assess the SA teams very well.

Do people have good sites or sources in English to cover south american soccer?

It's euro focused because the best leagues are there, every player regardless of nationality wants to play In England, Spain or Italy.

To answer your question

Www.goal.com (great site and in depth coverage of several leagues)
Www.soccernet.com (some ok non Euro coverage)

I agree with that, but I still find I can get a lot more analysis of say Germany Sweden, then similar South American national team matches. I will wander through those sites, thanks for the tips.

The Conmebol page is very good analysis of South American futbol. If you link it into Google Translate, it will come up in English and you can read until you little heart's desire:

www.conmebol.com

I just did it to make sure it would work for you. Enjoy
