Im hoping at least one of them draws Ukraine and they will play somewhere in the north with about 6 feet of snow hehehe
I'm with you on that, I secretly hope Argentina and Portugal get knocked out in qualifying.
Two less powerhouses to worry about

Bolivia plays the role of David once more, they now have wins against both of South America's super-powers. Maradona gets a stay of execution from 35 year old Martin Palermo, who scored in the 91 minute. Does anyone known a place where the Argentina-Uruguay match will be shown?

A classy move by the Irish, they aloted a minute's silence for the victims of the Messina landslides. If they only had a goal poacher they would have beaten the Azzurri, they deserve to be in South Africa. France wont be there, they are fed up with Domenench. Would you believe, he benched Ribery against Serbia.

Gigi Buffon needs knee surgery, who would replace him? Abbiati is still injured, Amelia is having a good year at Samp and Marchetti and De Sanctis haven't had big game experience. However the dark horse may be Vito Mannone; poached from Atalanta he's had to develop faster in the EPL than the time he would have gotten in Serie A. After being overwhelmed as a teenager, he appears to be staking a claim as the Gunners primo at the ripe old age of 20. Least we forget, Buffon won the UEFA Cup with Parma at 22.

But Brasil already qualified, so its kinda meaningless

There's a bar at the south-east corner of Bathurst & Eglinton, they show all the Argie games.
If they dont have it go here: www.myp2p.eu

And Argentina do not have a very good record in Montevideo, should be interesting

True. No one likes losing, but this really isn't a big deal for Brazil. Although they still should have beaten Bolivia, the only significance of this loss was that Brazil was unbeaten in 16 months, I believe.

Palermo saved Argentina in the end, but the game against Uruguay in Montevideo will be very difficult for them. Ecuador will play Chile, who has already qualified, and if they win and Argentina loses, Diego's team will be out of the World Cup. It's unbelievable that Argentina is in this situation. I can understand one of the big European teams not to qualify, but there is really no excuse for Argentina not to be in South Africa next year. I think they will qualify though.

Do you think there might be some collusion going in Chile wednesday between them and Ecuador??
Think about it, why not roll over and let Ecuador win and perhaps you get to knock out a powerhouse like Argentina. And it wouldnt even be illegal, there's no rule that says Chile cant field their C-team and play dead

Le Paz is at what, 3,600 metres (11,800 feet ) above sea level. Teams east of the Andes will always stuggle there. Domenech keeping his job after the last euros has got to be one of the greatest mystries of world football. If Mannone get a little more consistent I can definitely see him to be Gigi's heir, but still very young. Too much pressure now could ruin him.

Could definitely see Chile wanting to throw this game. But with both games being played at the same time, it's all in Argentina's hands.

Todays draw, I think Portugal got the easiest team:

Republic of Ireland-France
Portugal-Bosnia-Herzegovina
Greece-Ukraine
Russia-Slovenia

The play-offs will be home-and-away on 14 and 18 November.

dont be quick to dismiss Bosnia, any of those former communist/East Euro teams I take seriously, just because we dont hear much about them doesnt mean they are not good. Lets take a look at the former Yugoslavia for example, Serbia made the WC, Slovenia and Bosnia made the playoffs and Croatia missed out by a single point.

I read an article where they compared Spain's perfect record and ease of beating the Bosnians so by turn Portugal should do the same, I almost died of laughter, they forgot to mention Spain has won something and that the Portuguese have not really looked impressive and full of little girly men international big game choke artist like whiny Ronaldo.

How do these work? I'm new to the beautiful game. Do you have to win both to advance? Or do they even play two games?

they play two games, both home and away and the winner is determined by the total number of goals scored. If the total number of goals is tied (and here is where it gets complicated a little) the team that has scored more away goals wins.

I'll bend it like........

Not really complicated. Most goals win, and if tied, most away goals and if tied, penalty shoot out.

Indeed, my friend, they're called "legs". Simply put: there are two games so each team gets a game at home. The 'away goal' rule is to eliminate ties and the dreaded penalty kick shoot out.

Click on this link and it might give you more pointers.

Feel free to ask anything of us devotees of The Beautiful Game.

(BTW: Maradona is a Ghetto Peasant who just showed his level of education. Batistuta was the right choice for the 'Albiceleste' and they slapped him in the face when they turned down his request. Now, see what they got!)

Previous posters have explained it, but here's another:

Say if Bosnia loses at Portugal 2-1, but then Bosnia wins the return leg 1-0, Bosnia gets to go to the world cup because they beat Portugal on away goals. Make sense??

Add all goals up and you get 2-2, but Bosnia scored the away goal so they advance.

Capiche??!! ;)
