Can't believe we went from it being decriminalized for providers by the Supreme Court but bad luck that Harper's Cons were in power at the time and had to respond to the judgment and so chose to criminalize Johns. If the Liberals were in power they almost certainly would have left it open to consenting adults and maybe moved to tax and regulate it. No one is going to risk their election chances touching this again unless the Supreme Court forces them again. Thankfully the cops aren't actually bothering with consenting adults but it's so bizarre that the service is legal to sell but not to buy. Can't think of any other service/product treated that way. I would even make a case that it should be partially covered under provincial health plans. The health and social costs saved from encouraging this "therapy" would easily exceed the expense. I'd like to see Canada adopt the Amsterdam/European view.
