Today's North American society and standards have become sooo absurd it's downright borderline as being idiotic. When is a person(s) safety more important than exceeding a quota guideline so as not to infringe upon any one race? They should remove the word "race" and use something generic like "human" instead. Yesh! It's sue or be sued. What about the other 250 odd passengers and people on the ground, doesn't their race have rights too? Oh, you can only murder no more than 2 Asian/Black/White/Purple males or 1 Asian/Black/White/Purple female with a child under 10yrs old or something so ridiculous?! Criminals have more rights than victims it seems. God forbid we should come to harm them or infringe upon their rights while they're in the process of making explosives. ARGH!

All in all, I would have shit my pants and passed out!

That link was on DABEARS mb the other day. People were freaking out. My own humble opinion is some people are way to paranoid, and they lump all people of certain nationalitys all together usually for the worst.For Myself i probably wouldnt even have noticed since i have to get shitfaced before i even get on a plane.

It is not the least bit surprising that terrorists could execute such a plan. I figured this type of approach to evading security was possible a long time ago. (Sitting in airport lounges gives you too much time to think.)

What is REALLY scary is that while everyone on the plane pretty much had it figured out what was going on, nobody could do anything about it.

Time to rethink our priorities.

The story is bullshit.

I've got nothing to go by except my intuition and I have my doubts about this story. I can't see those U.S. Marshalls (Matt Dillon) just sitting there doing nothing if things were as suspicious as was described.

I have to agree.
This story sounds like the beginning of an urban myth.
Most men of Arabic descent are gonna be treated like terrorists as soon as they enter the airport (or the United States for that matter).
I think if this story was true; there would have been a lot more news coverage.

Smuggle the parts on to make a bomb? Sorry, but what is going to explode? Most of the screening devices will pick up plastique etc etc etc.

IF the information about inspectors not being able to inspect orthopedic shoes is correct, that would be the logical place for plastique. The rest of the components could be smuggled in in everyday electronic devices. I seriously doubt that it would take as many people as the story indicated to complete the task.

During the 4 hour flight, did nobody except the 14 mid-easterners use the bathroom? I think it would be hard to build a bomb in there while other people are firing out their pre-flight big macs. (But I've never built a bomb, so what to I know?)

Paranoia is extreme in the US

While it is always good to be aware - the level of fear mongering and paranoia is bizarre. Different people and different cultures have differnt ways of functioning - when I first was in the Mid East I always found it unsettling to have little groups of Arab males congregating and watching - now I know they are the ultimate gossip hounds - the culture is much more social than in the West.

I can tell you definatively that parts of the original story are bogus. If a flight attendant jeapardized security status with verbal disclosure to passengers about the existance or location of a federal air marshall - that would have been the lead story that day. As a result of the Syrian accountability Act - trust me those guys are pretty thoroughly vetted everywhere they go - despite Syria actually being a leading country in the US "War on Terror" - they have fallen victim to strong Isrealis interests in the US for supporting anti -Isreal activities. Americans should be kissing every Syrian ass they can, for its those guys who have done alot of the "heavy" interrorgation and background on leading anti-west player.

Note - I disapprove of fearmongering as much as anyone, but we have to be careful not to let our assumptions lead us to a conclusion.

The above link only proves that these individuals were musicians. Unfortunately, the mental image we all have of musicians (in this case) lulls us into making a leap in logic that they could not possibly also be terrorists. There is nothing, however, that prevents these individuals from sharing a common belief that they would be willing to give their lives for.

The most powerful tactic one can use in war is deception.

I think that we are still lacking enough concrete proof to make a decision one way or the other on this incident.
