solid vocals...great horn work...............but Dougie i cant lie..........i prefer the 2 minute tunes.......
I find 2 minutes too short. It always leaves me wanting more. I think 3:30-4:00 long is optimal.

Smokey Robinson (82) is appearing on June 28 at the Toronto Jazz Festival, at Meridian Hall. Don't know if tickets are available...

And I bet he still sounds great at 82.

Reasonable Doubt is the debut album of rapper Jay-Z. I consider it to be one of the 10 greatest albums in hip hop history. It turned 26 yesterday. My top 3 tracks from the album

Dead Presidents II (produced by Ski)

Brooklyn's Finest feat. Notorious BIG (produced by DJ Clark Kent)

Coming of Age feat. Memphis Bleek (produced by DJ Clark Kent)

The immaculate sample used on Brooklyn's Finest. My ATF Ohio Players tune.

I watch this video at least weekly. My 2nd favorite Sade tune. The backup singing dude is the epitome of coolness. And of course Ms. Adu is just immaculate

Al B. Sure! what a song. From the album In Effect Mode (1988). Wow that was such an unbelievable year for r&b and hip hop music

Chante Moore is one of my favorite female R&B vocalists. This was a great duet with Keith Washington

I had to get up at 3:00 yesterday morning to drink god awful tasting laxative for my colonoscopy later that morning. Listening to this album again got me through it
I played the heck out of this album in 1991. Bel Biv Devoe WBBD Bootcity The Remix Album

And my fav cut from the album. Remixed by the one and only Marley Marl

Definitely one of my favorite cuts from the disco era. I always thought this was produced by KC from the Sunshine Band but it was some Jamaican dude who did this in a bare bones studio in Kingston

sad and romantic....i heard this song on the radio yesterday.....thought i would post it.............
Not too long ago I would have considered this sappy. But as I listen to this today with a much more mature ear (partially thanks to you guys), I can really appreciate a song like this. Its beautiful thanks for posting it. Perhaps I'm off base but for me this song has the feel of a cross between Ritchie Valens and Sam Cooke.

the song originated in the 40,s,,,and has been recorded by many artists including Gladys Knight Al Jarreau..Bonnie Raitt and this guy....i think Dougie mentioned once that he liked some George Benson,s stuff...........BTW.. i agree Sam Cooke could have easily recorded this...and imo the Stylistics could of pulled it off...

I really dig George Benson. Great version of it as well his signature guitaring kicks in a little bit at the end. I need to listen to Al Jarreau's too I guess.

RZA is my 5th greatest hip hop producer of all time. He was primarily responsible for the production of the Wu-Tang Clan collective. Such a unique production style, best described as being grimy, thundering beats. Its super tough to put together a list of his greatest beats because so many are at an elite level. But for me these ones stand out the most

#5 - "Wu Tang Clan' Ain't Nuthin to F Wit" from Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers album (1993)

#4 - GZA feat. Method Man "Shadowboxin" from Liquid Swords (1995)

#3 - Method Man "Bring the Pain" from Tical (1994)
This incorporates one of my favorite samples from "I'm Your Mechanical Man" by Jerry Butler

#2- Ghostface Killah feat Raekwon & Cappadonna "Camay" from Ironman (1996)
A killer vocal sample of Teddy Pendergrass makes this one pop

#1 - Raekwon "Criminology" from Only Built For Cuban Linx (1995)
