We never give her love on here so its only appropriate that we do so on her 78th birthday. One of the great voices in soul music history. Gladys Knight.

I really dig this rendition of 'I Heard it Through the Grapevine'. She was pretty damn fine in her younger days too.

Shout out to the PIps as well, superb backup vocalists.

Magnificent vocals on this one supported by a simple, but sweet, bass line.

What a great song by Smokey. I'm sure this has been sung at many a funeral over the years

One of the first songs I can distinctly remember being played on the radio. I was 5 in 1978.

I was surprised Al Wilson didn't have a more prolific singing career. He had such a great soulful voice. In 1973 this masterpiece was released. Its one of my ATF songs

This under the radar gem was recorded in 1978 but wasn't released until after Marvin's death. Its got a distinctive west coast sound which is where it was recorded (Los Angeles)

What put me on to this song originally was rapper/producer Erick Sermon's remake in 2001

X...you are going way back....i talk about my late father sometimes here....this is the kind of stuff he listened to....and obviously as a small child and even toward my teen years i could never understand or appreciate this type of music..but i as i grew older....i came to like this type of music and why my late father played this music constantly..to my mother,s chagrin lol..

im a big fan of Muddy Waters....much of what he recorded was sexual in nature...always earthy and suggestive but never dirty, filthy, offensive or cringe worthy
