Thanks for reminding me how dope this album was. Released a few months after Dilla's death in 2006. My favorite track from the album was this one

The super dope sample is courtesy of Mr. Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions.

Here's "Only The Strong Survive" from Bruce Springsteen's album of soul music covers, released today. Very well done album. Excellent arrangements and orchestration.

Of course it's almost impossible to equal, let alone surpass, the perfection of the originals. Especially this one originally done by Jerry "The Iceman" Butler, but Bruce does a great job vocally here.

I'm reading Bob Dylan's new book "The Philosophy of Modern Song", in which he breaks down 66 of his favourite songs, and references many others.

He mentions "Shake Rattle And Roll", originally recorded by Big Joe Turner, and later also by Bill Haley & His Comets.

Bob also mentions the lyric in that song "like a one-eyed cat, peeping in a seafood store", which passed the censors and got wide radio airplay. It wasn't until Bob mentioned that line in his book that I thought about and understood it's meaning... :geek:

like this one...the reference to a babeball bat toward the end of the song would have sealed its fate

a buried treasure from the early 70,s i think
Never heard of this artist before so looked him up. This was released in 1972. He's definitely a cross between rock and soul music and I dig it. Thanks for posting.

Little Richard converted to Judaism, apparently encouraged by Bob Dylan as they had a close friendship. Who knew? (According to Google he returned to his Seventh Day Adventists roots in 2017.)
