That note she hits and carries at around 1:50 into the song is magical.

I love out the box hip hop and this qualified back in late 90's. It's hip hop crossed with a neo soul vibe.

I consider this to be the last true classic hip hop album. Q Tip's 'The Renaissance' which dropped all the way back in 2008.

I love when they do salute the sample on Sirius XM's Rock the Bells radio. Its stuff like this that brings me back to listening to the foundational tracks that got us to where we are. Greg Nice (from Nice and Smooth), LL Cool J and DJ Z Trip.

'93 Til Infinity' is in my top 25 hip hop songs of all time. The artists Souls of Mischief were part of the Hieroglyphics collective (along with Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, DJ Toure) hailing out of the Bay Area.

This is a great one. 1961's A Night in Tunisia by Charlie Parker featuring Miles Davis on trumpet. A ton of jazz tracks have been sampled by hip hop artists.

Sampled on Gang Starr's Words I Manifest from their debut album No More Mr. Nice Guy (1989)

Love this one by the Four Tops. Next to the Temptations my favorite Motown era group

Many people seem to forget that Marvin Gaye produced most of his own music. He was a multi instrumentalist as well as being one of the best vocalists this planet has ever heard. Talent was in the stratosphere

I always thought this song was from the 70's, it was actually released in 1981. Bobby Womack's 'If You Think You're Lonely Now'

It was covered in 1994 by Jodeci and appeared on the soundtrack to the movie Jason's Lyric.

From the album Definition of a Band (1996) this is Mint Condition 'What Kind of Man Would I Be'. For me the best song in their discog. Deep lyrics and Stokley delivers some stellar vocals. Every member of this band was a multi instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter. That's pretty rare to see. One of the band members Keri Lewis is the ex-husband of Toni Braxton.

Interesting. Never heard that group before. You can definitely hear a pronounced bass guitar.
