That's the nature of sports. The Canadiens passed on drafting Bossy (a Montreal boy) because he was weak defensively and perceived to be fragile. Yes, Bossy is in the HHOF.

I think some people, including Marner himself, think he would be a better player if he shot more. Not saying he is a bad player now.
It’s easy to be an armchair coach (I’m including fans, tv talking heads and former players with average skills) to give expertise advice to these highly skilled players. Plays develop with a split second decision has to be made so they have to rely on their instincts developed over years. They when interviewed may say the right thing to go along with the flow but in game situations their instincts will take over.

Marner's brilliance is predicated on his instincts.
I trust his instincts 100%, that's what'll help the Leafs towards a cup, not padding his goal stats.

Bossy was drafted 15th a lot of teams passed on him.

The Scabs passed on Denis Savard and selected Doug Wickenheiser in 1980, that was a bad pick.

It wasn't a bad pick, Wickenheiser was the consensus #1 at the time, he was a big time player coming from junior.
It just didn't pan out.

I remember it as how could Montreal pass on a future superstar playing junior hockey in Quebec.
I get that part, but I think that was driven by Montreal media and fans, not the hockey minds. Wickenheiser had to be that special to be picked over a star French Canadian.
I had no clue as to the relative value of each player other than he was that celebrated.

It sure didn't work out...

Doug Wickenheiser's life was like a Greek tragedy. He never lived up to the expectations of a 1st draft choice and then passed at the relatively young age of 37. Nyrop and Larocque also passed at a relatively age. There was a theory in Montreal why all three died of cancer. Then there is Pat Burns who coached the Canadiens. Saku Koivu, Lafleur, Lapointe and maybe others.

It will be interesting to see how the Leafs do against the Canucks this Thursday and next.

The Canadiens lost their first game against the Canucks in OT. In their second game the Canadiens targeted Hughes and Pettersson and won 3 games in a row since.

At the moment the Canadiens have 39 goals in 9 games, highest percentage per game in the Northern Division. Leafs have 33 in 10 games.

With 2 minutes left in the game and a 7-3 lead that was one huge cheap shot. Smashing the smallest player on either team into the boards. Disgusting!!!!

Another good win by the buds tonight. Lets see if we can capitalize as well with the next 2 games.

I didn’t like that hit either. There were a couple of questionable hits earlier, the hit from behind on Kertfoot should have been responded to earlier and I don’t know if the Simmonds’ hit was a late response.

Two more games with Vancouver in this series. We'll see if there are any follow-ups.

In an earlier Montreal-Vancouver game, 6'8" Tyler Meyers blindsided Armia and two Canadiens immediately jumped Myers. In the next game Edmundson challenged Myers to settle the issue mano a mano.

(I don't see many Vancouver games but they look like a soft team.)

Leafs could be suffering a bit of fatigue and/or miss Simmonds in their last 3 games.
Ottawa didn't belong on the same ice as Toronto last night, the Leafs were flying, they let them off the hook.
I would have paid just to watch Marner make that move in overtime last night.
