they were up 5-1, and playing the last place team in the league. yeah i guess they were tired.
Also, Leafs were leading in the 3rd period against the Canadiens and lost that game in regulation. Games are coming fast and furious. I think the Leafs and Senators play again tomorrow. Who will be in net to-morrow?

Maybe losing Simmonds to injury is also a factor.

It looks to me they started to relax and tried to cruise through the game, thinking “it’s not nice to run up the scores or the other team would get mad and start running us”.

On the positive side the Marner/Matthews/Thornton line looked great. It’ll interesting to see what the lineups look like with Simmonds and Galchenyuk.

In case no one mentioned this.

"The most prestigious organization in that league is the Toronto Marlboros. NHL alumni include Connor McDavid, the Hughes brothers, Jason Spezza, Sam Gagner and John Tavares. Gagner and Tavares left the Marlboros a long time ago, but it’s clear the Marlboros never left them.

They are in the process of “buying” or “taking control of the board.” I used the phrase “buying” on"

I'm not optimistic about Galchenyuk, what is this his 7th, 8th team, he was drafted the same year as Reilly.
With all the money tied up with the top four and Kerfoot at 3.5M, they're stuck looking for bargain basement players, that's the reality.
I'm hoping Dubas can cobble this together.

Galchenyuk averaged 40 pts a season but is 3 years removed from that. They are hoping he will be rejuvenated but he only had 1 pt in 7 or 8 games with Ottawa this season before being sent to Carolina then Toronto. Low risk high reward.

Looks like the cap might get stuck at $81.5mm (or whatever) for a year or two or three.

Hyman and Andersen are UFA in 2021 and Rielly in 2022.

I believe Kerfoot is on the trading block. They’ve been giving him a lot more pp time trying to jack up his stats. At 3.5m it’ll be hard to find a taker.

Not necessarily that difficult.
His cap hit is $3.5Mm this year and 2 more, but actual cash remaining to be paid out is ~$5.96Mm total.
A team looking to get to the cap floor may want him, and he's a decent 3rd line centre.

I find cap stuff most boring and better left to folks with excess time on their hands. Anyway, I'll give it a shot. It appears that the Leafs are ok for the 2020-2021 season.

After this season, Hyman and Andersen become UFA's and Dermott becomes an RFA again. A bunch of lesser players also become UFA's or RFA's. Doubt the cap will increase next season. So, will Dubas (if he is still around) be able to sign all the players he wants and still stay within the cap? (Rielly becomes an UFA in 2022, can the Leafs sign him then?)

Edit: To correct spelling -- should be Dubas.

You find cap stuff boring, yet every season you hyper-focus on the Maple Leafs & their cap situation.
I would hope they're okay, in compliance for the 2020-21 season, since it's about 1/4 of the way over.

Indeed, FA31 & ZH11 are U.F.A.'s at end of the season.
According to what I've read, all NHL teams will face the same flat cap situation for the next few? years.
The free market will determine their worth.
That's not solely a Toronto Maple Leafs issue.

Dermott a R.F.A., in for a small raise, nothing serious.

I would be shocked if Alex Kerfoot is a Toronto Maple Leaf at start of 2021-22 season.

Who is Dumbas?

I would say with a great deal of certainty that the Maple Leafs will be able to ice a full roster of NHL level players for the 2021-22 season.

I was not impressed with him at all last year but it looks like he's finding his groove this year.
He's got great tenacity and pretty good vision, if he stays on this trajectory the Leafs will need to keep him if they think they have s serious shot at the Cup.
They will only get a downgrade or a decent player who needs significant time to adjust to this environment for a salary dump..
He's emerging as THE player on the bottom six.

BTW, the Leafs played a great game tonight.

The upcoming expansion draft is probably affecting some player moves, I don't know to what extent.

Matthews having his best year ever. He could be the left handed Ovechkin. Seems like he now has a slapshot/one timer.

I know Keefe is not much of a believer in load management. So, will Andersen or Hutchinson start to-night?
