It may be a procedural move, to place him on the taxi squad.
I don't think many teams are that interested in him at a $3Mm cap hit for this season & next.
Though, only $3.5Mm total to be paid out (minus whatever is already paid this season).

The more you watch this team you realize Morgan Rielly is not that good. Is it me or is he always scrambling in his own end? He's always chasing his man, never on top of him.

And the dude has no slap shot whatsoever. On the PP they always look for the pass because they know he can't shoot. It's so fucking frustrating when these huge shooting lanes open up in front of him and he dishes it off.

He’s no Al MacInnis or even Weber when it comes to point shots, it has never been his strength, neither is his checking. His strength lies in his skating, rushing up ice or skating back into position. I don’t think there’s a defence man in the league now who can skate like he does and shoots like Weber though.

As a side note Adam Copeland was not content with an acting career. I'm assuming this was Sid's last show.

Galchenyuk had a 30 and 20 goal season for Montreal, I thought he was one of their better guys...he's 27 and Toronto will be his 6th team.

Actually Toronto will be his seventh team less than 5 years since he was in Carolina for a few days.

Suspect it is a move purely to open a contract spot.
