Watchdog says 2018 saw most far-right-linked killings since 1995, with 42 of 50 murders carried out by firearm.

From a deadly ambush on a Pittsburgh synagogue that killed 11 to a Parkland, Florida school shooting that left 17 dead, every US "extremism-related murder" in 2018 was linked to the far right, according to a new report by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

Last year marked the most killings by far-right attackers since 1995, with 42 of 50 murders carried out with firearms, an annual report published by the ADL concluded.

The report adds that 2018 was the fourth-deadliest year on record since the ADL started tracking such murders in 1970.

"The white supremacist attack in Pittsburgh should serve as a wake-up call to everyone about the deadly consequences of hateful rhetoric," said Jonathan Greenblatt, the ADL's CEO, in a statement.

"It's time for our nation's leaders to appropriately recognise the severity of the threat and to devote the necessary resources to address the scourge of right-wing extremism."

The ADL partly attributes the comparably high number of deaths to a series of mass shootings, including 17 incidents involving "shooting sprees that caused 38 deaths and injured 33 people".

One of the perpetrators, 17-year-old Corey Johnson of Florida, had switched from white supremacism and "allegedly converted to Islam" prior to stabbing several people during a sleepover, killing a 13-year-old and injuring two others.

Unlike previous years, the ADL included a new category of political motivation known as the incel (or "involuntary celibacy") movement.

The incel movement is a predominantly white online subculture populated by men who blame women for their failure to find sexual or romantic partners.

In November 2018, Scott Paul Beierle opened fire on a yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida, killing 61-year-old Nancy Van Vessem and 21-year-old Maura Binkley. Four others were injured; Beierle killed himself.

Media reports later found that Beierle had posted several YouTube videos in which "he revealed deep-seated hatred towards women, particularly women in interracial relationships who had ostensibly betrayed their 'blood'", the report says.

Hate crimes on the rise
In California's Orange County on January 2, 2018, Samuel Woodward, a member of the neo-Nazi group Atomwaffen Division, stabbed to death Blaze Bernstein, a former classmate of Woodward's who was gay and Jewish. Woodward was charged with first-degree murder with hate crime enhancement.

In February 2018, Nikolas Cruz shot up his former high school in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 and wounding 17 more.

In October 2018, white nationalist Robert Bowers allegedly stormed a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania synagogue and shot dead 11 worshipers. Authorities charged him with 44 counts, including religious hate crimes.

The youngest victim was 53 years old and the oldest was 97.

Barry Werber, a 76-year-old survivor of that attack, later told the Associated Press, "I don't know why he thinks the Jews are responsible for all the ills in the world, but he's not the first and he won't be the last."

Werber added, "Unfortunately, that's our burden to bear. It breaks my heart."

In the wake of the massacre, critics accused US President Donald Trump of stoking hatred and inciting against minorities, a charged Trump rejected.

Writing on Twitter after visiting the community in the wake of the incident, Trump dismissed the criticism and claimed his office was "shown great respect on a very sad and solemn day" in Pittsburgh.

The FBI reported a 17-percent rise in hate crimes in 2017, the largest increase in more than a decade.

Right wingers and incels are the new terrorism threat.
And will they become even angrier when Trump is impeached, or will they quiet down?

'Far-right terrorism is a growing concern':

The report found that far-right terrorism was on the rise in Western Europe and the United States, calling it "a growing concern."
"In the four years between 2013 and 2017, there were 66 deaths and 127 attacks caused in Western Europe and North America by far-right groups and individuals," the report stated.
The index identified 31 far-right extremist attacks and 17 deaths associated with them. These included the fatal stabbing of two people in Portland, Oregon, in May 2017 by a man shouting slurs at two African-American teenagers and the January 2017 Quebec mosque attack that left six dead.
"The majority of attacks were carried out by lone actors with far-right, white nationalist, or anti-Muslim beliefs," the report found.
The reporting on the increase in far-right attacks echoes the jump in hate crime reports in the US and Canada. The FBI said in November that reported hate crimes had jumped 17% in 2017 from the year prior. Canada saw an almost 50% jump in hate crimes in 2017, according to a federal government report published last week.

Far too many acts are being automatically classified as far right terrorism when in reality they aren't. Anti Semites exist on the left. As do anti immigrant types.

Who's kirk? Who's my people? Are you off the meds again?
Why do you make excuses for the far right. Do you think that they are less violent than let's say the ANTIFA?

I don't make excuses for anyone. I'm just sick of groups who attempt to politicize the issue and pigeon hole people as right wing extremist when there is no evidence to suggest as such.

Clearly here there were allegiances to the extreme right before the killings or acts of violence.

Anyway, do you feel the same when the right wing groups try to politicize either the ANTIFA, Left / Liberals or The Muslims??

So what are you saying you don't think ANTIFA is a radical left group? You don't think radical Islam is rooted in far left ideology? The right wing doesn't politicize these, they do it to themselves. I also think the far left is more defined ideologically and more organized than is the far right so it's easier to attribute direct actions to that ideology.

On the contrary, the far right is loosely defined ideologically and largely unorganized. You've got neo Nazis, ultra Nationalists, sovereign movement advocates, anti immigrant/anti abortion Christian extremists. But the challenge is that many of these groups hold both traditional left and right wing viewpoints. And that is because, like Earth, the political spectrum isn't flat. It's circular. Extreme left and extreme right intersect in some aspects. Case in point the Nazis. National Socialist German Workers Party

Anti-fascism groups appeared as a reaction to white nationalists, extreme right wingers and their violent protests.

You don't think radical Islam is rooted in far left ideology?
It isn't, unless you'd consider Christianity communist in its origin.

I think Islamic terrorism caused more than 66 deaths in the same 2013-2017 period in Western Europe and North America.

The Anti-Fascist Movement was born to counter the decades of violence from the far right groups. The far right preached hatred and targeted certain minorities that went unchallenged until the ANTIFA organized counter-demonstrations against hate speeches and those perpetrating violence. The ANTIFA is a much more broad base that encompasses also the moderates. There are some violent elements from the more radical left, but I would not portray them in the same category that you seem to do. In fact you make them sound worse than these extreme right wing groups. Was Heather Heyer a "radical" person as the right try to portray her as such? The Neo Nazis now seem to be fuelled by the present POTUS, and they have openly stated so. Their ranks have also grown over this past two years of his tenure, and their protests are more violent than ever. The Nazis have nothing to do with Socialism. Socialism and National Socialism are two extreme ends of the spectrum. National Socialism = Neo-Nazism!!

Islamic Terrorism should not be condoned, and have been condemned by all. This thread is about the most killings being perpetrated and executed by the extreme right. In other words there is a stark rise in this violence. Why are you trying to deflect from that fact by throwing the Islamic Terrorism?? There are numerous threads on that topic, and more that are being started on practically a daily basis. So why do you not try to throw into the mix, the Extreme Right Terrorism in those threads?
