Unlikely as Federer will continue to be highly selective with the tournaments he enters. Let's also see whether Nadal's knees stand up to the stress of playing on hard courts and grass. I think it's quite likely he will have periods of fitness problems second half of the year.

Will be hard for Murray to stay number 1, as he has a ton of points to defend from now on. His chances of retaining his Wimbledon title don't look great considering the draw he has and his recent injury.

Could be a come-back time for Djokovich as he has few points to defend the latter part of the year.
Very very tough for Novak to get to Number 1. It will be either Rafa or Roger. Rafa is leading Novak by 4800 points (Which is 2 slams and a Masters 1000) in the ATP race. Since Roger did not play at all in the clay court season, he would have a chance if he wins Wimbledon. And I think Roger will for sure play most mandatory tournaments in the second half of the season.

So you are talking about the ATP race. The number one position is actually based on year to date performances!

I know :D

The reference to ATP Race was to your comment on whether Novak can make a comeback to the number 1 by the end of the year.

Sure. I agree, the end of year positions could be completely different. Whether Nadal or Federer can end up at the top will depend as much on injuries to them and others, as anything else.

I'm taking a calculated risk, but it may be worth it.

I'm picking JM Del Potro to finally put his injury problems behind him and win is second Slam. If it's not meant to be I don't lose much, the Big 4 are ripe for the taking. JMDP has always given Djokovic trouble.

From what I've seen so far the Big 4 won't be ripe for the taking this year. And if I was going to pick a dark horse it certainly wouldn't be Delpo - he's not mobile enough and apparently his wrist still bothers him. I didn't see much of Raonic's match but in the little I did see I wasn't impressed. If anybody's going to break through the Big 4 I'd go with Zverev.

So much for my hehe...disposable income. Raonic started lazy but is now in control, he can't start out like that against the better players.

Meanwhile David has slain Goliath yet again :adoration: Dudi Sela, an Israeli, listed at 5'9', 144 lbs beat John Isner, listed at 6'10', 240 in 5 sets. I guess they don't need weight classes in tennis ;)

That is one of the beauties of tennis. You don't have to be a genetic freak to be a world class player. It is a sport that anybody can enjoy and excel at.

That is true to a certain extent. Don't know about anybody being able to enjoy and excel at it though. I remember back in the day when I played, participation in tennis was very high. I saw many people that didn't have a clue. Not knocking them mind you as I'm sure they were saying the same thing about me when I took a few dance classes back then. Didn't take me long to figure out I wasn't going to charm any ladies on the dance floor.

Anyway the first week of Wimbledon has wrapped up and boy oh boy do the Big 4 look strong or what. Right now it looks like the only thing that will stop them is each other in the semis.

Interesting match-ups this afternoon for Nadal and Raonic. Zverev could be a tough opponent for Raonic as could Muller for Nadal. In Mullar's last match he served 4 aces in one game.

Good call on Muller challenging Nadal. A 5th set marathon, but Muller handled the pressure well. He was composed at all times, never flustered. Nadal is famous for winning the big points, but Muller rose to the occasion.

I think Milos looked pretty good as well. His game is so much more well rounded now than when all he could do was serve. Baseline, net and longer rallies to set up points instead of just going for a winner right away. In particular, his slice backhand was very impressive.

That Muller-Nadal 5th set was epic. Kudos to Muller for hanging in there against a guy that's been in top form this year. Nadal made him earn it.

Milos seems to be improving as the tourney goes on but he's going to have to bring his A+ game to beat Roger. Can't see it happening. Does anybody beside me think that Milos is just about the most awkward moving, looking person on the tennis court for a top male? Can't put my finger on it but it's like he's all elbows, knees. I know he gets the job done but he's sure no smooth operator.

That's true, Raonic isn't as smooth on the court as Marin Cilic who has looked impressive. And Cilic is taller than Raonic.

Since my pick of the men's draw turned into a farce I kept quiet about my women's pick. There's only so many matches I can watch, I skipped Muller - Nadal. Since there's money on it, my focus was on Kerber vs Muguruza - my gal came through. This may be hard to believe but Garbine is actually 8 months younger than Genie.

Watching the ladies played tennis at Wimbledon in the all whites outfits really turn me on! They look real SEXY on the court!!!!

Forgotten how noisy some of these ladies can be until I started watching Halep. (Not the loudest in the game, I think the honour for that was a Portuguese lady but loud enough). A really great match though with now all the top players now knocked out.

From my POV, any lady but a Williams sister to win Wimbledon. One is a cheater, the other can't drive a car.

I though Garbine would be tired after her slugfest with Kerber, she won easily against Kuznetsova. It's time for regine change.

From my POV, I couldn't care less who wins on the women's side. If Genie was still in it, I'd cheer for her. I like her offensive style and of course she's easy on the eyes. But I think she's too much into the partying and social scene to contend consistently. In general though the quality is not there in the women's game. And I can't stand the screaming, especially the high-pitched stuff a la Sharapova. Should be banned in my view.

As for the men, I caught some of the replay on Djokovic's match today. He straight-setted the guy but looks like he has a right shoulder problem. He had the trainer out at one point working on it. Doesn't bode well for his chances.

Raonic just got his azz kicked by Federer. Raonic is not getting any younger. Not sure if he realized that and he could be running out of time to be no.1 in the world in the near future. I bet Raonic will not get there unless the top 4 all retired at the same time!
