So James Harden signs an extension with the Rockets. His salary for the next 4 years....... $57 million a year. Woah.
Not exactly. He signed a 4-year extension for $170 million. He'll make $58 million total for the next 2 years, meaning $228MM over the next 6 years. So he'll average about $38MM for the next 6 years. I'd still take it :)

DeMarre Carroll traded to the Nets for Justin Hamilton. Nets also get first and second round picks in 2018. Complete salary dump by the Raptors. I don't know how they did it though...I thought that the salaries involved in a trade had to be within 15% of each other? Carroll is making ~$15MM, and Hamilton is set to make ~$3MM. I guess that's why I'm not a capologist :D

Not sure we have the whole story on this trade. Read where the Raps also get a trade exception with this.
To me it seems weird that you give up a player(granted with a high salary) and a future first and second round pick, for a guy that you could end up trading or buying out. I know they want to dump salaries but this says to me stay tuned, more to follow! Could JV be next?

Wow the price to get rid of a bad contract is huge .

The matching salaries rule only applies to teams above the cap. The Nets are below the cap, so the salaries do not have to match. This dump was costly. The Raps give up their 2018 1st & 2nd rounder.

More salary dumps have to be made. Expect Joseph & Valanciunas to be next.

Told ya that Masai still had moves up his sleeve!

This 3 year hold in current mode play (good but never great) that seemed to be happening with Surge and KLO's contracts ending with DD's in 2020 was taking hold in my head. But now with DC off the books (and Stormin' as the starter?) there's a chance to be able to get ahead of the curve again. Was this trade a new development or in the works a while? Cuz it would have been good to have the cap space for PJ or a trade... Anyhow training camp is still a while away and the fallout continues! Let's go Raptors!

This is a very bad move for the Raps. They should have let Lowry go and focused on a solid wing and power forward. Right now the Raptors are deficient at both the power forward position and small forward position. They are trying to rid themselves of JV and Cory Joseph who they will inevitably get pennies on the dollar for.

Looks like the raps made another move right after DC. Joseph is going to indy for cj miles. The deal cant be finalized yet till after the DC is done. I tried to google cj miles for his twitter and came across this lol.

I don't think Masai is done yet, they still need to dump JV and possibly throw in another couple of useless players on their roster like Nogueira, Bruno or Hamilton. Right now they have 6 bigs, it's way too many especially for an evolving NBA that's made big men useless. Once JV is traded, I expect Ibaka to move to the 5, and either Siakam or Poetl to start at the 4. They would have a solid starting 5 in Kyle, Demar, Powell, Ibaka and Siakam or Poetl. CJ Miles coming off the bench is a great addition, and I expect Delon Wright to be a solid replacement for Cory Joseph.

They're a significantly worse team than last year though. So far they've lost Tucker, Patterson, Joseph and Carroll, and a 1st and 2nd round pick in 2018, and only got CJ Miles in return. Carroll was a subpar scrub on a horrible contract, so Masai really had no choice, since no other team in the entire league wants him. Signing Carroll was Masai's only big mistake, but not as bad as Colangelo's signing of Hedo.

This is an amazing move.

CJ Miles is one heck of a wing player. A real character guy who puts the team first. Masai redeemed himself really quickly there.

Wish Cory Joseph the best. He is only 25. Hope he can make the move from career back up to starter. Really good teammate. Though he won't admit it he's probably a little crushed right now.

NBA.com is reporting that Toronto is trading "Curtis Joseph" at the moment. Heck, I like that trade even better. Don't know what the Pacers have in mind for a retired goalie but we'll take it.

Poor Cory Joseph. He gets traded from his hometown first. Then NBA.com can't even get his name right!

Both the deals depend on Washington agreeing to take on the contract Brooklyn offered RFA Otto Porter. If Washington declines the Nets are over the cap and Masai is back to square 1!

......moves up his sleeve...moves up his sleeve....let the fallout keep coming....as discussed above by so many, there are holes but now we have salary space and there's still 2 months before training camp...but it will definitely be a new look group with new discussion parameters to come. Here's hoping for breakout years for Delon, Stormin' and the DraftTwins16

Speaking of which, anyone catching summer league games? Get a load of how the offence will look this year. 4 & 5's are all shooting the open 3! :flypig: ...like I said, new discussion parameters..!!!:adoration:

The summer league is akin to the D league, the second tear players should look good! Jacob looks like he has bulked up; Siakim is scoring as he did in the D league last year, IMO time will tell!
GO signed his rookie contact, I think he may be a good one.

C J Miles is a UFA, I take it there is a financial reason for a sign and trade for Joseph? Looked at his numbers and not all that excited, he can hit the 3 and last year he was above the average per cent wise, but can he do it here?

Wonder what Masai gets for JV? Looks like it will be sit back and watch and hope for the best!

The right chess move for Washington is to not match the Otto Porter signing. Let him go to the Nets and put a snag in the Raps plans. The cost of dumping salary all of a sudden gets even higher for the Raps. It's the way I would play it with a Conference rival.

I agree, it not only screws the Raps, it does the same to the Pacers and Nets. Wizards lose Porter but with that contract that may not be such a bad thing. The unsaid part of this is there are times when a youngster signs a huge contract like Porters, they lose their basketball focus and either suck or their talent falls off considerably. If Porter goes to the Nets, he could be a bust as they don't have the talent to surround him that the Wizards have.

Fortunately, the Wizards matched. I don't think it was a wise move by them. But it benefits the Raptors so give a f*ck?!?

Been trying to find the confirmation of the Wizards matching the offer without success, so far. They have until Wed. or Thur. to match so I would be surprised if they have announced a match all ready, but anything is possible!
Lights went on and I googled the Washington Post and sure enough it is there and the Wizards are now in luxury tax territory!

Hey Dawg, are you sure it wasn't fake news. You know, the POTUS there says everything from the Post is fake news...

....and apologies to all for injecting him into the thread........!:bump2:

CJ brings more D. Yes there are concerns if he can really stretch the court consistently with his 3 but he's been trending up there and 41% last year is good.....Again just liking the way we are getting new ingredients in the pot and hoping the new soup matches the anticipation........CoJo will be missed and all the best to him in Indy but I like the potential of Delon and hope he can continue to perform. Anyways, looking forward to when the soups' up!

So far free agent signings dollar total this year :$2,113,031,975.00
The average signee will receive $13,993,589.00 annually over the life of their contract.
The cost to teams for the 2017-18 season:$623,239,893.00
Teams are not done yet so the numbers will increase, although the average yearly number should drop a bit as the vast majority of the big contracts are completed.
