I'm glad Gary Oldman got a nomination, he's amazing as George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Somewhere from beyond Alec Guinness has a smile on his face.

It's only because some films were produced in 2010 (for example) but not released in North America until 2011 and could have been released in their country of origin a year prior.

Did DiCaprio get snubbed? Didn't see the movie but I heard he was great in Roosevelt? Not true?

Lots of Oscar parties tonight. It should be fun!

I say 'The Artist' - Best Picture

Jean Dujardin - Actor

Viola Davis - Actress

'A Separation' - Foreign Language Film

Malick should get Director but they simply don't have the balls to give it to him.

Here's cheering Plummer wins for 'Beginners'.

Fingers crossed Woody gets 'Original Screenplay.'

'Descendants' was over rated. 'Hugo' feels like a bit of a cold (although lovely) postcard. 'Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close' shouldn't even be there.

Too bad Crystal is hosting. He'll have to do something pretty daring to rise above the milquetoast expectations. Then again, that what he was hired for.

Looking forward to a night celebrating
The 7th Art!

I think it should be automatic that Best Director would also have made the Best Picture. I've only seen 3 of the nominees but of them I'd go with "The Artist".

Bérénice Bejo should have been nominated Best Actress instead of Best Supporting Actress for "The Artist", but I'd still pick Michelle Williams as an amazing Marilyn Monroe.

I'm going to watch it at the local movie theatre on the giant screen, seeing it in a crowd is the best way to enjoy the show.

You appear to have missed a whole bunch of nominations.
Not all all.

All nominees are listed in the very first post.

Bérénice Bejo should have been nominated Best Actress instead of Best Supporting Actress for "The Artist".
Couldn't agree more. She is the female lead of the film and her smile would light up the devil's heart!

Since there were two Marylin Monroe portrayals this year, Michelle Williams will not win this year. Oscar will not acclaim one (Williams) and slight the other (Chastain -The Help). However whomever wins the top prizes for acting will have to contend with the fact that they were only second best. If the Academy truly believed in artistic merit these would be the winners:
