I don't think that's true about Germany. They made a good start, will have given themselves a big psychological boost, in addition to already benefitting from home advantage. They will only get better with the return of Ballack, and Klinsmann will definately be working on his back line before the next game comes around.
England on the other hand is bound to be in trouble if they don't raise their game above what they've shown up to the 60th minute of their Paraguay match. The South Americans are playing terribly and England has not been able to make it tell in their favour, leading from a single own goal. Their defense has been solid, but Gerrard and Lampard still don't get along in the midfield. Only an English commentator could refer to Crouch as "highly skilled" without a chuckle. On the bright side, Beckham has been at his best - which means brilliant moments on the long ball and merely compentent in all other situations. What creativity they've shown has come mostly from Cole on the left.
Most troubling, is McLaren's presence on the bench. I don't care how mature the two men are, it's simply stupid to have the present and future coaches there together. It can only lead to friction, and for what benefit?
