with my trap I tend to take a values based approach but with my tfsa I'm thinking of being more adventurous and this strategy interested me both because of its success rate and the counter-intuitive nature of the thing. That's why I was curious if anyone here had tried it.
Hi
I was curious whether there are any fans practitioners of trend based investing a la the turtle traders. Just read the book and was curious if anyone has any experience of investing this way.
Is this you?

I got dinged with an increase in the assessed value of my commercial building 60% above what I paid for it seven months earlier. Filed an RFR they offered to take 50k off. Filed an appeal - paid my taxes for two and a half-years - and then just before the hearing was scheduled they negotiated...
I just find this depressing to no end. As someone a bit addicted to following American politics I generally found him to be one of the sanest voices out there. So many of the big issues get reduced to talking heads shouting talking points at one another. With Zakaria there were often real...
You should research the tax implications of that. I'm pretty sure there are high taxes on property sales by non-US citizens on real estate to discourage speculation. Also the income from rentals would need to be reported and taxed across jurisdictions which could be a pain.
I'm in a similar boat and am planning on finding an ETF or i-share that targets dividend bearing stocks for my TFSA and another one for the U.S. currency I'm stuck with in the medium to long term because of the lousy exchange rate. Seems like the best option currently as most of these ETF's seem...
Recent budget problems in the states leave me very bearish on the U.S. $ (which is unfortunate since I'm sitting on a fair bit of it which I'm now going to have to find some way to profitably invest to make up for the exchange loss over time).
I think the U.S. federally is in danger of...
Thanks guys. I was looking at ETF's and iShares as I don't think I'm going to have enough to play with to get diversification otherwise. I'm just fed up with the high MER's bank mutual funds charge for their index fund and this seems like a much cheaper way to get the same diversification.
I'm sick of the mediocre performance of my mutual funds and am looking at setting up an online brokerage account to invest in securites. Was curious whether people have any opinions on the different online brokerage options and which ishares or other etf's might be a good opening move for a...
I spent a long time working as an activist and I have to tell you I just hate the anarchists who show up at these things hoping to get arrested/cause an incident with police. For these assholes this is mostly about their egos and the exercise is largely masturbatory and has little to do with...
Sorry not sure what that means exactly. Don't think its a form of advertising popup though as it was moving around in the middle of a thread almost as if someone else was reading it. Gave me the willies as I thought maybe someone was remotely accessing my computer.
I'm wondering what this could mean. Twice now when I've been looking at threads on terb I've noticed a second cursor moving independently elsewhere on the screen.
Needless to say I'm a little unnerved.
I have Norton 360 and am using Firefox. Would really appreciate any techie advice on what...
