You cannot ever trust the US with their weapons. So, as I suggested, the first step is to cancel F35 order. In a conflict, US would pull a switch.
The Swedish Grippen was the potential alternative approved by DoD if I recall correctly. Cheaper, less advanced. Now that the training has already begun for RCAF on the chosen option, it won't be too easy to pull a mid-river changing of horses....So, as I suggested, the first step is to cancel F35 order. In a conflict, US would pull a switch.
The F18 Hornet can carry nukes as well. So, as I suggested, the first step is to cancel F35 order. In a conflict, US would pull a switch
The W76 is only 800 KG and can yield 100KT. Of course its unlikely that Canada can build nukes of this size and sophistication at the outset. But the fact is, with fusion bombs most of the BOOM comes from the fusion reaction so as long as we can build a decent fission trigger, we should be able to build a fusion bomb that is less then 2T. But I could be over simplifying it. With our participation in nuclear research I am sure there are Canadians that can design one. There is only the delivery problem we would have with nukes.
They are very heavy bombs, and you need a capable plane to drop them
No necessarily, we can skip the air launched one and use mobile launchers like the Russians do in our vast network of forests. We'd need second strike capability and a nuclear triad.
Otherwise it isn't useful.
I still don't think Canada needs to go nuke. I doubt we even have SAMs in our northern territories... how many Subs we have on the northern straits? I wonder how many Russian subs are under the Arctic...Which was my point.
If you're gonna go nuclear you cant do it half-assed.
Go all the way, or dont go at all
I cant![]()

Yeah, not quiteWe never have to worry about the Russians. They have their own arctic, its even more vast then ours and it will take generations to develop
Then we'll team up with Europe, China and Mexico, and then Trump will be surroundedIf we went the nuke route, it would probably be the green light for Trumputin to invade militarily under being a security risk..
This Trump hatred coming from your posts has me worried! Phil, are you OK? Next you will be telling us to vote Carney over Pee Pee.Then we'll team up with Europe, China and Mexico, and then Trump will be surrounded![]()
Russia and China want to develop the northern sea route. Of course they are armed, they need to be able to sink US subs that may try to close that route, and thus would be training to fight in Arctic conditions. Nothing will secure the Canadian Artic as better then its developmentYeah, not quite

Why is Canada scrambling to counter Russia, China in the Arctic?
Canada has unveiled a new Arctic strategy to counter what it describes as threats from geopolitical rivals.www.aljazeera.com
NUkes are a relatively cheap way to guarantee sovereignty. We can't possibly compete with US military spending so if that is the threat its nukes or surrender.Just checking in here...But isn't the idea to limit or eliminate nuclear warfare?
Another question...How does a country who can't meet it's NATO commitments even think about developing nuclear weapons?
Uh-HuhRussia and China want to develop the northern sea route. Of course they are armed, they need to be able to sink US subs that may try to close that route, and thus would be training to fight in Arctic conditions. Nothing will secure the Canadian Artic as better then its development
Trump is still my uber-God, he's just having a menopause momentThis Trump hatred coming from your posts has me worried! Phil, are you OK? Next you will be telling us to vote Carney over Pee Pee
