How are these guys going to do? So many things are up in the air. This season will be very telling and will dictate the future.

Should we hope for them to tank so we can be rid of Shitniks? Cuz if they do well, they may just keep their jobs.

Nightmare scenario is they are 55-55 at the deadline, and they make a few extra trades.
Best case is they either are in strong contention, or clearly out so they can make trades.

If we compare to that frustrating 2023 team that won 89 games, this team is similar on paper. Line up the teams and they are comparable... although the pitchers are a few years older. 89 wins certainly is above the reasonable range, but maybe 84-85 and then some close game luck.

Then again we have seen what happens when things go bad.
The biggest factors for the downfall last year in my view, were bad Bo and the bullpen. Both should be better. But others can decline as well.

I see this team as an 82-84 win team. Get some run luck and a couple breaks, it can compete for the 3rd wilcard -- which was 86 wins in the AL last year (more realistically going to be around 88). But some bad run luck and pen stinks., it could turn the other way too.

If Guerrero has a good season, I am hoping Rogers opens up the vault for him. So many combinations of variables exist this year. What is going to be the future of this club?

Here is the organizational depth chart https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/blue-jays

My thoughts:

Springer at leadoff isn't great. His OBP was an appalling .303 last season. The season before it was .327. If he can get back to the .330+ range then he provides value at leadoff.
I'm interested to see this DH Wagner what he can do over a full season. They have him projected for the 5 spot.
Bichette at cleanup is somewhat interesting. I think I'd rather have Santander there and Bichette at 3.
If they're going to bat Gimenez at 7 there isn't much hope that he swipes 30 bags. I actually think he could potentially play his way into being our leadoff hitter if Springer doesn't cut it.

I still think our starting rotation is pretty solid with Gausman, Berrios, Bassitt and Scherzer. Francis looked really good in the 2nd half of last season after a rough start. At this point I've all but written off Manoah.
Bullpen I don't like overall. Swanson definitely needs a bounce back but things got off to a horrible start for him last season when his kid was critically injured so I give him a pass. Hoffman I loved as a prospect and it seems at least for the past two years he's been able to command his pitches so it could be a good fit. Chad Green is more than capable too. Yimi Garcia I don't like that re-signing at all. Nick Sandin, Brendan Little, Tommy Nance, Yariel Rodriguez all subpar.

The farm is bottom 5 in MLB. Tiedemann can't stay healthy. Orelvis lost a lot of development time with that suspension. I am curious to see what Clase does at AAA as well as Trey Yesavage, our 1st round pick last year, at A ball.

Expected outcome: 5th in AL East 77-85 so a bit better than last year.

I'm not an MLB expert but it doesn't look like the Jays will be heading to the post season this year. It irks me that the Orioles were able to build a waayy better team than the Jays a season or two ago. I thought Vlad and even Bichette would by now leave elsewhere but is staying. Not sure about the pitching staff, felt the pitching overall lacked. Maybe Pete Walker should retire as PC and bring in new talent? Not sure.

They have no choice. The first year that they have a choice is at the end of this year, and it looks they are each choosing to get the fuck out of Dodge.

You seem to be implying that the pitching coach also makes the choices at the draft.

Personally for me, this spring, persons of interest- Orelvis Martinez, Addison Barger and Jonatan Clase. but why haven’t we seen enough of CLASE? I don’t even think he’s made an appearance yet. Addison Barger better hurry up and start doing something because he’s starting to look like a lame duck. So unfortunate with that plate coverage and bat speed. Best thing for him to just sit on something and have a plan.

Clase has some kind of injury, that’s why he isn’t playing.

Really? I’ve been watching most of the spring training telecasts and I haven’t heard about that. Nothing on Google either, but Google really does have bad info regarding minor league players and the current state they are in especially regarding injuries. Where did you hear this? I have been actually looking forward to seeing what he can do. Having his speed on the team would be so helpful.

Never mind, I googled “Jonatan Clase injury” and now I see it. Hamstring.

I see them performing similar to last season.

The pitching staff is a year older and more prone to injuries, a closer who is a question mark, a lead off hitter who is a few years his prime, and the whole Vladdy/Bo trade talk drama that will never go away.

Rogers has deep pockets and has shown they are not afraid to spend money. That is why I feel that Vladdy doesn't want to play in Toronto.

If they have another year like last it is time to pull the plug on this leadership.

I am still not a fan of the manager as I feel that he has no balls and is just a puppet of the GM.

On another note, baseball should start looking at introducing salary caps to level the playing field for all markets and fans.
