MAGA seems to have really stuck it to farmers in the US. Deport their workers, cut/freeze funding, start trade wars where other countries will look for goods elsewhere.

One of the early comments I saw about the USAID cuts was that they purchase huge amounts of food from American farmers to send overseas. No aid = no money for farmers.
The operative word there is "send". Why should US taxpayers pay to feed people overseas?

Well, the US gov. was buying SURPLUS US grain, from US FARMERS, that otherwise would have gone to waste. Now those farmers aren’t getting the payments they’ve gotten for years because no more grain for poor countries. Should US taxpayers help US FARMERS, or does MAGA hate farmers now too?

A textbook example of how subsidies distort the market.

So what should have been done then? Screw the farmers? Let the grain go to waste? Because all that surplus grain will just drive the price down even further.

lower grain prices in an inflationary environment ?
sounds like a good thing for the battered US consumer
with two wars winding down there will be a buyer for that grain

You mean other than as a tool of foreign policy, the same way that China is using their Belt and Road initiative to gain influence in other countries?

And I'm sure the bankrupt farmers will be fine with what's happening.

Where does Food Aid fit in with the Belt and Road initiative? China doesn't do anything for free.

if a farmer will become insolvent without government subsidies
then he will become insolvent when the government becomes insolvent

The debt the US government has accumulated in its 240 year history is projected to double in 9 years
government spending needs to be reigned in and needs to be reigned in RIGHT NOW

Who do you think is going to be on the hook for the grain that’s sitting in warehouses and on ships at ports around the world? That’s right, the US taxpayer.
