Indeed, I would cancel the F-35 immediately as well as the maritime patrol planes. Force majure, no money. Then I would place an order for either Rafale, Eurofighter. And Saab globaleye on Bombardier Global jets with RR engines. I would dump the frigates and go with the French or Italian option. The elephant in the room that nobody dare talk about is the defense agreements between USA and Canada, i.e. NORAD etc.

The truth is Canada needs to wake up, this is not a spat, this either annexation or decoupling. There will be no middle ground. We cannot be successful in the long run with a bipolar partner.
The Gripen has US derived engines, so the Rafale or Eurofighter would have less US content. We could probably build or get massive offsets from the Euros.I like it!
I personally think that making a deal with SAAB to build Gripens here and build about 50-100 per year would be best for Canada.. Better to have more lightweight, low operating cost, aircraft flying more often to maintain proficiency than a few f-35's that costs more than double to buy and operate. And they can be forward deployed in shell game locations throughout Canada. Keeps the aerospace industry alive in Canada with good paying, skilled jobs.
Same with the SAAB / Bombardier AWACS.
Trump has demonstrated, like Russia, that their contracts, treaties and guarantees are worthless. So the USA, if they wanted to conduct a military invasion, could simply switch the flying computers (aka F-35
s) off!
I was going to suggest the Rafale too. Then I would place an order for either Rafale....
Will avoid Walmart and US retailers where possible as well. Try and avoid Esso gas stations, every cent we spend with US companies is being used cushing the blow from our counter measures. Is there a way to avoid Home Despot? When you go shopping this week check every brand to see if it's made in the US, Canada, Asia or Europe.
For example I won't be buying Tide laundry detergent anymore, I'll be buying Persil which is a German company.
I will save 25% on my bill that way
I know, F404's. Same as in our CF-18's. So, yeah... there's that. The Gripen has US derived engines, so the Rafale or Eurofighter would have less US content. We could probably build or get massive offsets from the Euros.
Use local hardware stores. Is there a way to avoid Home Despot?
Thanks for posting this. After looking at the list, I already buy the Canadian version (without having based my decision on where the product is made). The Canadian version of many of these products are better! Some alternatives.
