One idea I had, a massive home building program to end homelessness. This will suck up a vast quantitiy of lumber across the nation while at the same time creating jobs to offset the coming layoffs.

The elephant in the room that nobody dare talk about is the defense agreements between USA and Canada, i.e. NORAD etc.

Indeed, I would cancel the F-35 immediately as well as the maritime patrol planes. Force majure, no money. Then I would place an order for either Rafale, Eurofighter. And Saab globaleye on Bombardier Global jets with RR engines. I would dump the frigates and go with the French or Italian option.

The truth is Canada needs to wake up, this is not a spat, this either annexation or decoupling. There will be no middle ground. We cannot be successful in the long run with a bipolar partner.

I like it!

I personally think that making a deal with SAAB to build Gripens here and build about 50-100 per year would be best for Canada.. Better to have more lightweight, low operating cost, aircraft flying more often to maintain proficiency than a few f-35's that costs more than double to buy and operate. And they can be forward deployed in shell game locations throughout Canada. Keeps the aerospace industry alive in Canada with good paying, skilled jobs.

Same with the SAAB / Bombardier AWACS. (y)

Trump has demonstrated, like Russia, that their contracts, treaties and guarantees are worthless. So the USA, if they wanted to conduct a military invasion, could simply switch the flying computers (aka F-35
s) off!

The Gripen has US derived engines, so the Rafale or Eurofighter would have less US content. We could probably build or get massive offsets from the Euros.

Requiring the Americans that are manning NORAD and the QEW stations to leave Canada would likely bing in the Marines.

When you go shopping this week check every brand to see if it's made in the US, Canada, Asia or Europe.

For example I won't be buying Tide laundry detergent anymore, I'll be buying Persil which is a German company.

I will save 25% on my bill that way
Will avoid Walmart and US retailers where possible as well. Try and avoid Esso gas stations, every cent we spend with US companies is being used cushing the blow from our counter measures. Is there a way to avoid Home Despot?

I know, F404's. Same as in our CF-18's. So, yeah... there's that. 🤷‍♂️

I admit to having a crush on the light little Gripen! As a kid, I LOVED the Tomcat with its swept wings! But then I learned about the F104 Starfighter and then went into F-16 mode because it's just so damn nimble. I just have leraned that being light and nimble is an advantage.

If the US brand is cheaper (without the sacrifice of quality), I'll still buy the US brand. If another foreign/local brand is cheaper, I'll go with that one. Like most people, IDGAF about politics, I just want to live healthily and get my immediate needs taken care of...then I'll talk about "politics".

Just a reminder that Trudeau has tariffs on chinese-made electric vehicles.

And he also slapped a 25% tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum used in the manufacturing of EVs.

So we do it too, and I don't think we can claim the moral high ground here
