That may be another trait of of trump Devotee Syndrome, tDS. Only someone with tDS knows when to take him literally and when not to. Normal non-cultist people don't have that ability. The only catch is that they can only make that differentiation after the fact depending on how much backlash he gets. They never know in real time, though.
