I always felt homerun hitters are not essential. Speed and contact hitters can win and are just as exciting

Homerun hitters strike out way too often as that is part of their DNA and are the most expensive because they put bums in seats

Good defense, speed and contact hitters can win and winning puts bums in seats as much as homerun hitters
but you cannot go halfway as you will need speed and contact throughout the lineup except for the homerun hitters
so let vlad and santander strikeout but everyone else has speed and contact
and then we have Capt KIrk so put him at the bottom of lineup as he is good defense as the way he frames for pitchers he is the best in baseball
so pinch run for him but who is his backup?

A lot depends on Bo regaining his form as the best opposite field hitter in basball but he is a workalholic so I have faith in him

The guys they traded for at deadline are not primetime players yet

I wouldn't trust Jay Insider as a credible source. They're no different than any these basement dwelling podcasters.
I trust them as much as the "it's a process" BS from Shatkins.

The team has steadily declined year over year since 2021 and their developmental program has been pathetic. And it seems that they're prepared to let the only 2 good players that they've developed, Bo and Vlad, walk.

I've heard of both Atkins and Shapiro, and they both suck….
…. Each other? i’m joking. If they sign Pete Alonso, extend Vlady, get one solid left-handed starter, and find a way to re-sign Yarborough for the bullpen, I might possibly forgive Ross Atkins for the Teoscar Hernandez trade which is quite the accomplishment considering that is the worst trade in team history.

Reports are that Alonso and the Mets are back in discussions.

I just saw that. Apparently Francisco Lindor is telling the managment to re-sign him. There’s so many conflicting reports. It’s so hard to know what is accurate. I just hope they don’t sign Bregman. In three years that will be a bad contract with no escape clause. Just like George Springer.

Reading now that Guerrero has upped his price to 585/13 or something silly like that. I don’t see it happening anymore with the Blue Jays getting a deal done. If Guerrero only hits 19 home runs next year with 86 RBIs, for once Ross Atkins will look like the smartest guy in the room. Poor thing is a mess. I predict a salary cap within the next three years.

I bet they could have got Vladdy for around $350M for 10 years at the beginning of last year.

People should know not to mess around with Shatkins. You can't outsmart those guys. They always get the best for the cheapest. :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:

If he walks or they get a few prospects for a short term rental, the Jays will be playing to a Dome packed with empty seats.

I predict a salary cap within the next three years.

Nope.

January 14, 2001, the Blue Jays traded David Wells and Matt DeWitt to the White Sox for Kevin Beirne, Brian Simmons and Mike Sirotka. DeWitt and Simmons were re-traded for each other before the 2001 season, so it was effectively Wells for Beirne and Sirotka.

Wells had been acquired from the Yankees in February, 1999, with Homer Bush and Graeme Lloyd, for Roger Clemens, who had won the AL Cy Young Award in 1997 and 1998. Wells had won 37 games for the Blue Jays in 1999-2000, (including 20 in 2000), and he would go on to win 90 games in the Majors after this trade.

Kevin Beirne had a 12.86 ERA in 7 innings for the 2001 Blue Jays and was non-tendered after that season. Mike Sirotka was injured at the time of the trade, (but apparently not badly enough that he couldn't pass the Blue Jays physical), and never pitched again in professional baseball.

Left-handed starting pitcher Adam Macko is one of the Blue Jays' top 15 prospects, which isn't saying much. He was acquired with Erik Swanson from the Mariners in the Teoscar Hernandez trade. The Jays will have six years of club control, if and when Macko reaches the Majors; he's expected to start 2025 at AAA. If he pans out, this will end up being a great deal for the Jays, even if Swanson continues to suck.

What might ultimately be be worst trade in Blue Jays' history was the August 2, 2022 trade where the Jays sent
Nick Frasso, (a 6-5 starting pitcher, and a top 30 prospect of the Los Angeles Dodgers, injured all of 2024), for Mitch White, (0-6 with 7.50+ ERA in parts of two seasons with Toronto). I have a very high opinion of Fraaso, and we can all agree that Mitch White was dog shit.

When all is said and done the worst trade in Blue Jays history will be Moreno and Gurriel Jr. for Varsho. A Shatkins monstrosity.

What on earth are you talking about? Lol. You definitely know your stuff but Adam Macko being a good deal if he pans out, is an extremely far stretch. Ross Atkins went off and dealt Hernandez during the apparent “window to win“ and Hernandez then goes off to win a World Series in Los Angeles…. extending Hernandez and keeping him in that lineup was the right move…. The wrong move was getting rid of the protection for Guerrero and the mentorship and the clubhouse chemistry. It was completely idiotic. I don’t care if Adam Macko becomes the number one prospect in the world. That trade was stupid and the average onlooker can see the unnecessary holes it created. After the 2022 season the Blue Jays were not in a the Blue Jays were not in a position to build with prospects. They were in the position to win and win now. And the timing of the deal couldn’t be worse. If you’re going off the anger fumes of the loss to Seattle in the playoffs, Teo was the only guy that showed up in the elimination game because he hit two bombs. Getting rid of him after that game was some mad man with ridiculous thoughts of what the problem was.

The Roger Clemens deal was horrible. However, the Blue Jays were getting bullied to make that move because Roger was demanding a trade. So unfortunately, they were kind of fishing to get whatever they could, but all the pressure in the world was on the Jays to send him to New York and shut up and take where they can get. The Yankees were such a juggernaut at that time they were able to bully like that.

When all is said and done the worst trade in Blue Jays history will be Moreno and Gurriel Jr. for Varsho. A Shatkins monstrosity.
This was a very bad one as well.

6-0, 170lb's with a 4.87 ERA in AA last year...Yeah I don't know about this one.

Teoscar was a main cog in a world series winner...That's hard to beat.

Best to trust Jeff Passan. He's usually bang on with his sources.

If I remember correctly Sirotka had a torn labrum in his shoulder....That's a career ender in those days.

You have to wonder what Ash was thinking.

The Halliday trade was a stinker as well...So was the Shawn Green one.

On a positive not they raped my Yankees in getting Fred McGriff... Traded by the New York Yankees with Dave Collins, Mike Morgan and cash to the Toronto Blue Jays for Tom Dodd and Dale Murray....I mean this one is terrible for the Yanks, lol.
