You need to store them somewhere while you deport them.
Only so many planes.
Then there are the people you can't find a place to deport them to.
Just lock them up indefinitely in the meantime.

As for why Guantanamo?
It already exists, for one, and it has the reputation for being a torture site.
It's like using absurdly expensive military vehicles and shackles for just flying deportees out.

Close the border. Deport the convicted criminals only (excluding those who still don`t have papers). And leave in the country, and/or make a special visa for them, those who have committed no crimes, who work and pay taxes.
Deporting too much will cost america a lot. These latino are the back bone of your food, contruction and service industry (restaurants, hotels, airport, convention center, etc...).

They are very nice people and they do the jobs nobody else will for cheap. However we let in a lot of bad hombres too and these bad hombres will be heading to the new detention center soon.
That is not what ICE is doing right now. They are putting anyone without papers on a plane.
I think they don't even check if they have papers. They ask them to say 'Walmart'. If the response sounds like 'Balmart' or 'Gualmart' they are on the plane back

I’d be curious to know what Homan means by “the worst of the worst.” What are these detainees guilty of beyond being in the US illegally and having black or brown skin that warrants detention in Guantanamo Bay?
Have any of these detainees been accused or convicted of a serious crime? If so, why did the justice system release them into the community.
I doubt these detainees have committed any serious crimes whatsoever…this is all performative racist theatre for the conservative ghouls who get off on seeing black and brown people punished.
