We hate government officials profiting off their office. That was one of the definitions of corruption back when people had standards.

I'm on the fence here. I believe in the social responsibility of breaking unfair laws. Which is why I refuse to pay income tax. It's civil disobedience in hopes of promoting the greater good. Perfect example, cannabis. It was illegal for the last 50 or so years but did that stop people from smoking it? Definitely not. So what happened? The government finally realized the error of their ways and now cannabis is legal and available to any adult that chooses. Prohibition was the same thing. I work all over the world. I fly over 100k miles a year. I've been in the shithole and the well run countries. I see up close how when govt's exhaust their citizens with lower level corruption then it's open corruption, usually followed by mass gaolings then murder (like Putin's Russia).
