Let us not forget that the real culprit that caused the reduction in border security personnel was none other than duringvthis era:

Union for border guards confirms more than 1000 jobs to be cut

The union representing the Canada Border Service Agency is issuing a warning that crime will increase, after they confirmed nearly 1026 jobs – 325 front-line – are being cut in the wake of the federal budget.

The intelligence services alone will lose 100 positions – nearly half of all its agents.

Jean-Pierre Fortin, the president of the Customs and Immigration Union, said those are the individuals who track terrorists, drug traffickers and sexual predators, and they focus on suspicious travellers or shipments entering Canada.

“There will be little, and in some cases potentially, no investigating or surveillance being done to keep these criminals out of the country and out of our communities,” Fortin said. “If the government doesn’t change the course and withdraw its plan to implement these cuts, the federal government will be putting the national security and public safety of our community at risk.”

Nineteen dog sniffing teams are also being slashed and every agent who tracks child porn has received a notice.

Fortin said the government is misleading Canadians by saying frontline work won’t be affected, because it’s these jobs which are crucial to security at our borders.

The Harper government, meanwhile, has dismissed the warnings, with Parliamentary Secretary of Safety Candice Hoeppner telling Rogers radio news the numbers are inflated, and only a fraction of those who received notices will actually lose their jobs.

“This is plain and simple fear-mongering and grandstanding. The cuts that we’re talking about will have no implication on national security or on our border security,” she said. “There’s a lot of work that’s already being done by police services, RCMP, CSIS, and there’s some good work that’s being done at CBSA in terms of intelligence.”

Hoeppner said many people will simply be moved around in the department and most of the positions being slashed are duplicates which aren’t delivering what’s needed and must go.

In addition, she pointed out that the Harper Conservatives are responsible for bringing in legislation to crack down on smuggling and child pornography.

“Now we’re hearing complaints like this when it just doesn’t make any sense,” she said, in response to Fortin’s press conference, adding that she believes the union is making these claims because they are not happy about some of its federal funding being cut.

Fortin said there are also concerns that the cuts mean the U.S. will play a larger role at the Canadian border, as the two continue to negotiate a perimeter security deal.

thats not what trumpty said dummy. he could give 2 fucks what happens in canada he just wants to look like his dictator heros
The real target for border security is Mexico. I still think the Canadian is simply a diversionary tactic to make it appear that the U.S. isn't targeting Mexico alone.

If Trump leaned solely on Mexico, how many would be saying it was racist? I don't see enough in the media about the serious problems within Mexico and how they spill over the border.

They're announcing stuff to shut Trump up because Trump will move on to the next headline grabber in a few days. Whether they actually do the stuff they announce remains to be seen.
Basically, Trump has been signaling all along that there needs to be a stronger message that you shouldn't come here. It won't be easy. It might not work out well for you. That in itself is a big contrast with the Biden/Mayorkas Administration.

We all know that the U.S. can't patrol every mile of the border. We know we aren't going to deport 10 million people.

But that is not how law enforcement or in this case border enforcement works. It's about deterrence. The uncertainty of what lies ahead for those who cross the border illegally or think all they need to do is overstay their temporary status.

Note: Special bonus for you. If Trump can't reduce the influx of migrants, you can say you were right. If he does reduce the influx with mostly strong deterrence, you can say he didn't do all the things he said he would do. The reduction in migration was merely happenstance with cyclical causation.

The question is why?

What compels them to constantly want to undermine and destroy their country?
Last time I checked, Biden attempted to pass legislation to stem the flow and Trump blocked that legislation - essentially so he could enact measures himself and be the "hero". That's consistent with what he usually does.

I don't think he will be effective in reducing the influx. The laws and enforcement are already in place and have been ineffective. And while refugee claims are cyclical, Central America and Mexico are both deteriorating badly in law enforcement and safety respects and people are going to continue to attempt to flee to the USA.

If he was serious about stemming the flow of asylum seekers, he would abrogate the UNCHR totally. No one has been willing to take such a drastic step.

I doubt Trump is smart enough to understand immigration and asylum legislation and I doubt he gives a shit. His shtick is to make big announcements, get headlines and then do fuck all in any real sense. And when the flow of asylum seekers enters unabated, Trump will step up the rhetoric about there being a "border crisis" and make even bigger announcements and get even more headlines.

It's what rightie governments have been doing for the last 10 years. They allow immigration to spiral upwards, do fuck all except make big speeches and then campaign on the "crisis" that they themselves have created, but which they blame on their opponents.

Oh, and how about THE WALL ???!!!!............ I thought that was supposed to be the masterstroke to solving the entire crisis. Maybe Trump should BUILD THE WALL!!!!! again and put Bannon in charge of fund raising??? 😹 😹 😹 😹 😹 😹 😹

How big is the problem? How many people are actually illegally crossing the border to the USA? Massive death? I think less then 10 people died. 600% of what? that could be less then 100 ppl.

That legislation was window dressing and rightfully blocked.
It would have been better than the fuck all nothing that got done instead.

But go on believing that your boy Trump will solve any of the problems he says he's going to deal with. You can enroll in Trump University as well and buy Trump Vodka too. 😹😹😹
