Are you saying only Canada Post can get it too you in 5 days? Really?

I get lots of stuff within a couple days, i.e. any amazon order.
Once again, the 5 days is for a reduced cost. You can get a Canada Post Express delivery within 24 hours!!

Canada Post is cheap but not fast.

A regular envelope from Montreal to me in Toronto takes 5 or 6 days.

From Montreal to Winnipeg takes at least a week.

If getting rid of Canada Post is such a great idea why didn't Harper do it when he was in power?

For those that don’t like my idea, which is all of you, if say UPS say took over the operation the mail part of the company would not look like their current operation, they would provide the same services to the same customers.

I just want to get rid of the overpaid butfuck Federal employees.

As a taxpayer I don't mind subsidizing postal delivery. But when it starts to cost taxpayers over $500 million per year and rising we've got problems. Approximately 28 million taxpayers file an income tax return every year. Over 1/3 of those pay no federal income tax. That means about 18.5 million taxpayers are footing this loss. That works out to about $27 each if everyone paid the same amount of tax, which we know isn't reality. Unacceptable.
The union wants 19% wage increases over 4 years. Canada Post is offering 11.5%. That is in addition to COLA. The union's demands are bordering on insanity. Arbitrate and get them back to work asap.

$129,238
Canada Post Corporation employees have an average estimated annual salary of $129,238, or $62 per hour1. Postal workers in Canada usually earn between $22.00/hour and $32.00/hour2.

I think the postal workers are making a pretty good living wage for now. For the skill level involved.
What the fuck do Corporation employees do to make them worth $129.238 a year?
You guys still want to make a case for the current structure of Canada Post?

well i suspect the Corporation employees use to write a lot of memos for distribution
until they discovered Canada Post Corporation's internal mail delivery system was inefficient and unreliable
now they write a lot of emails for distribution

any private sector crop would be slashing Corporation headcount if they had Canada Post Corporation's losses
and any private sector union would know their demands are not aligned with the economic reality .

The parasite killing the host has been seen enough times in the private sector
Private sector union membership has declined

the only reason this union pushes forward with its demands is it knows they can extract more from a third party not at the bargaining table - the taxpayer

I think I just stated the opposite. Can the Corporate employees.
The 19% pay increase is pretty fucking ballsy to ask for considering the skill set required. The 11.5% seems reasonable. If you're not happy. Go to school part time for the 4 years of the contract and learn to do something more meaningful.

It's like the union is negotiating like it's 1980. Considering how much money they're bleeding, something's got to change. Which means they can't sustain the current number of employees and they need to get rid of any "jobs for life" clause. How about reducing mail delivery to two or three days a week and don't hire more employees when they retire. Just a thought.
