Canada-US Border Sees Ten-Fold Jump in Illegal Indian Migrants

The whole thing about the temporary foreign workers and foreign students thing is not directly Trudeau's fault. I mean, on paper, they are good policies. BUT....businesses and educational institutions exploited it. For example, there is a college in PEI that recruited Indian students extensively, to the point where something like 45% of students were foreigners. The benefit is they can charge international student fees, which are at least double (sometimes triple) domestic tuition. Anecdotally, I heard one Conestoga College did significant recruiting in India and built up a massive fund by feeding off these higher fees...

And now....with the removal or trimming of these students, universities and colleges are cutting programs. Sheridan just announced it would close 40 courses!!

On the temporary foreign workers front, it was never designed for places like Tim Hortons. The original idea was to allow places that needed seasonal workers, like fruit pickers or farm hands during the summer months. They were supposed to come and go as needed. It was expanded to included places that faced labour shortages (like, say, the oil fields in Alberta). Somewhere along the lines, fast food restaurants co-opted the program and exploited it.

Now, the government is going to kick out those who's Visa's have expired, and they think sneaking into the US is a better idea....

The realty here is that illegal immigration from Canada into the US is tiny fraction compared to the southern border. In face, until recently, we we're seeing more try to come to Canada from the US. I also think this could grow, as more illegals in the US push on to Canada to avoid deportation.
International students pay 500 to 700% more.
I checked.
This is a total scam lol.
Let the universities suffer and learn their lesson.
There should be a law enacted to standardize fees and mandate that Canadian unis should make international students eligible for scholarships.
When we invite students we need to invite those that we think are going to be productive citizens.
Not cash cows that we can milk and then put out to pasture to become rideshare drivers.
The TFW legalized indentured servitude should just be terminated entirely.
I think Canada has enough low wage workers. Atleast for now.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with this. However, it’s not that immediately obvious who would become a better taxpayer faster - a foreign engineer who is full of himself and barely speaks English or a foreign student who is young and resourceful enough to make it here and whose English is good.

The immigration application should have checks for those things.
I think they do already but if they don't, they should.

They do but it’s still unclear who would do better

The PR points system is meant to help with that.

Basically for student VISAs, the feds empowered the provinces to control the numbers. From the Fed's perspective these students were all intended to leave after they study unless they could turn around and apply for PR and get through that points system.

The provinces saw this however as a great way to pay for colleges and universities and cranked it up.

You can come to Canada to study if you

  • are enrolled at a DLI
  • prove you have enough money to pay for
    • your tuition fees
    • living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada and
    • return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada
  • obey the law, have no criminal record and get a police certificate (if required)
  • are in good health and get a medical exam (if required) and
  • prove to an officer that you will leave Canada when your study permit expires

English is basically universal now. Majority of foreigners with a high level of education will probably speak an acceptable level of English.

To be honest, I don't think our system is bad. It's just Trudeau's numbers are way off.

Unfortunately, applications the past few years have not been properly screened. Too many submitted and federal governments are trying to make quotas.

This is one of the reasons why fraudulent students, Khalistani and ISIS terrorist have been on the increase.

Doug for sets tuition fees across Canada? Will you blame Ford for the cost of books too?

In reality though, Ford's government actually added to spending to help stabilize Tuition.

No matter how you want to spin this, you can't charge someone that isn't given a visa to come here. When Trudeau talks about Bad Actors in the system, He's talking about himself. And yes, even when I stub my toe I yell F* Trudeau. He's is the equivalent to a devil at this point.
Sounds like he acted promptly to cut the abuses.

Pretty good move on Trudeau's part that, huh?

Trump just won...Peepee is about to be the next PM of Canada...the years aren't looking good for you my friend....
Why, was it not looking good for you when Trump lost the 2020 Elections and O'Toole lost against Trudeau in the 2021 Elections?

Wasn't looking good for anyone, now was it? Or why would they lose the next election?
