A new report by the Israeli outlet Calcalist reviewed Israeli military spending on wars since October 7, finding that Washington is funding 70% of Tel Aviv’s military costs. In a little over a year, the US has provided Israel with more than $20 billion in military aid.

“The scope of American aid since the beginning of the war is about 85 billion shekels… According to official estimates by the Bank of Israel, the total cost of the war is…approximately NIS 118 billion.” It continues, “Therefore, according to a simple calculation, The Americans financed about 70% of the war effort.”

According to the Cost of War Project, the US has given Israel $22.57 billion in military aid since the Hamas attack. Calcalist concludes without US support, Tel Aviv’s war would simply be unaffordable.

“There is no doubt that without the American aid the government deficit for the years 2024-2025 (which is one of the highest in the country’s history), would have increased by about 4.3 % GDP, which would have made it unfinanceable,” it says. “Therefore, it is doubtful whether this war would have been conducted as it is – neither in intensity nor in scope – without the American assistance.”

The US has sent Israel tens of thousands of bombs, artillery rounds, and tank shells. Those weapons have been used to commit countless war crimes against the Palestinian people of Gaza.

The official death toll in the besieged enclave now exceeds 43,000. However, a group of American healthcare workers who have spent time volunteering in Gaza estimate the actual death count to be over 118,000.

Dr Tammy Abughanim, a pediatric intensive-care surgeon, said, “We cannot do our jobs, because Israel has made our jobs impossible, and Israel has made our jobs impossible with the direct support of the United States.” She added, “We all know the obvious step is to stop supplying Israel with the arms that it is using, the weaponry that it is using to target and kill civilians.”

Strategically this is a great move for the USA long term. They can fight proxy wars through Ukraine and Israel without harming the homeland.

The US could have paid for universal health care instead they spent the money on genocide and making the world hate them.

And yet Joe Biden cannot get Israel to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza or Lebanon despite 11 visits to Israel by SOS Antony Blinken for that purpose.

Netanyahu is continuing his assaults in Gaza and Lebanon to upset Arab voters in Michigan and get them to refrain from voting for Kamala Harris and help Trump win there.

Maybe they need a proxy war to contain Russia. But the Palestinians?

What possible threat could the Palestinians pose to America? Im asking about America, not Israel.

Obviously they feel with money they are spending on Israel, it better serves their national interests. One could say that they're getting a bigger bang for their buck.

Do you think that you know more about American interests than they do?

Leaders can be mistaken in deciding where the interest of their people
lie. Trump and Vance for instance have decided that it is not in their
interest to give away money to Zelensky's Ukraine. And yet you can
rest assured Trump as president (again) will turn out to be a bigger
poodle of Israel than any Democrat president.

As one justification of the pending invasion of Iraq
George W Bush had made it clear democratization
of the country will turn it into an Israel-friendly state.
We of course know all the money spent on the invasion
and occupation of the country might as well be flushed
down the toilet.

The one interest served by funding Israel is that it makes
some people feel good about having a reliable ally in the
Middle East standing on guard against imagined terrorist
attacks on American soil. Without Israel terrorists from Iran
will hop on a plane to the U.S. to launch 9/11 like attacks.

Would you vote against Harris only because she is backed by
war criminal Dick Cheney?

Would you oppose net-zero emission just because climate leaders
of the ilk of Trudeau, Al Gore and Leonardo are climate hypocrites
who couldn't care less about the urgenct need to reduce carbon footprint?

Obviously. Better to spend that money on a foreign country than on their own. And go deeper into debt to do so.

But, but, but ... I thought it was the left that was anti-Israel. If it's the right, shouldn't they be cheering the extortion, er, I mean "aid"?

I suspect they know much more about their internal and global affairs than even you do. The spending has to pass through several legislative processes and hundreds of highly informed politicians with widely differing political views. They've managed to form a consensus. And this consensus has been consistent for over 60 years and probably about 15 different administrations. It's not just by co-incidence.

Are you willing to admit they have more information about their affairs and strategic interests than even you?

Absolutely zero.

That is not the point. The US needs Israeli intelligence and an Israeli deterrence to Iran. The US needs Israel to remain strong, continue to be a valuable asset and as such they need to help Israel defend itself against potential threats/danger.

Once again, this has shit all to do with "Jewish money" that age old anti-Semitic trope. It has everything to do with protecting American interests in the ME.

Every single time the question of why, why, why the US helps Israel, the answer is always the same and it's simple and it's obvious and right in front of your eyes if you guys care to actually look objectively. The haters should learn to accept reality instead of all these conspiracy theories. The US and Israel are allies that help each other. Israel obviously needs the US more, but it does not mean that the US does not also need Israel.

Indeed, it is simple and obvious. It's just not the reason you keep spouting.

Since you don't, it means that the US policies are based on having more information than you do.

End of story.

Pls help me remember which direct war US has won ever.
Strategically speaking, they always bring the war ptsd home. Soldiers are tired of fighting war which is not theirs and retiring defeated. Imagine an emotion of. Soldier who has been fed on lies of world best soldier and could even win a war.

Keeping foreign countries at leash makes petro $ rise. Why do you think US is more interested in destabilising other countries govt than taking care of its own home affair.
The amount of time to waste of stupid topics and agenda by US citizen is mind boggling but it is fine till govt is paying the bills. Ppls are over with free lunch and now they are expecting free dinner and breakfast.
