Aside from being the major world cultural language through the Medieval period?
Latin? You know the major world cultural language who kept improving. The Arabic world contributed very little [not nothing but little] to the great conversation.

But really everyone only needs to know the language of Shakespeare or SeQpIr in the original Klingon.

All other languages are just a collection of grunts and moans and should not be encouraged.

Yes I am aware of that. Very nice, but let's see what Paul Allen has done.

Are you really comparing what came out of the Arabic world with what came out Europe. Philosophy, Music, Science. Their golden age is not even a footnote on history in comparison.

I've looked at the offerings of a few Philosophy departments becuase I am lonely and have nothing better to do for unrelated reasons to this. I don't remember even 1 course on the arab world, there might be a wee bit in a survey course, but that's it. Everything else is west west west.
I've done my fair share of low level university math and science. Ditto.
Again I didn't say they did nothing, but in comparison to what the west put out, and how much the west took over... footnote.

Except for literature, but neither group can compete with the Klingons.

Introducing Arabic as a mandatory subject in a specific educational branch may seem harmless at first glance, but it is a symptom of a more profound societal change. It is a step towards cultural adaptation that gradually normalizes Islamic culture. It attempts to integrate Islamic values and traditions into the education system to familiarize the next generation with these values from a young age.

But they elected to take the "modern languages program", which - oddly enough - teaches modern languages. Just like I elected to take "German", which - oddly enough - taught German.

If they elected to take "Science", I am guessing they would learn simple physics and biology.... Right??
No no, they'd be FORCED to take Physics and Biology, and indoctrinated in the teachings of ibn al-Hatham.

Now tell us about classical Greek and Latin and how relevant they are today?

I realize that it's vital to read Augustine of Hippo in the original Latin, of course.....

Why are these twitter posters so deluded?
Or do they just enjoy lying to their readers?

This is massive. For the first time in US history there is a chance for a 3rd Party to make a significant dent to the imperialist duopoly.

Why say something so ridiculous?
Stein is polling somewhere around 2% - better than her normal performance but third party tends to poll higher than they perform when the election actually rolls out.
She looks on track for the usual Green Party performance of <1% and zero states won.

(That's not even getting into the fact that there have ALREADY been third parties who have made stronger showings that the other two parties had to respond to in US history.)

The difference is you weren't forced to take German in school, it was an elective.
It's not really clear whether or not this is an elective, though.

It's "mandatory" within the "modern languages" program, but it isn't clear whether or not "modern languages" is an elective.
The article is just not really well written, or it is the kind of thing that is really obvious to people in Belgium, so they didn't bother to explain it.
Do you choose different programs based on your interest?

It also seems to be that they aren't teaching people to become Arabic speakers.
The Modern Languages course or program or whatever seems to be about understanding grammar and language and etymology and cultural context.

(Although that sounds more like a university course than a high school one, so maybe this is a prep school?)

In a real dictatorship, the Ottawa protest wouldn't even have got set up. A real dictator would have Tianamen'd those truckers before their engines had cooled off.

The convoy came to Ottawa with a written goal of overthrowing the government. The Couts guys were accelerationists, and armed.

City of Ottawa AND the Province of Ontario abandoned their responsibilities forcing the federal government to act, after WEEKS of warning. And even then, 0 injuries, no cops battoning the bejesus out of the protesters. All in all, softer than the G20 kettling.

At 63, you were born into a golden time and pulled the ladder up after you. Anyone ~40 and younger has been handed a whole deck of spot cards, and not more than a pair of each. Either politics are going to make a hard left so that people can afford to live, or it's going to get ugly out there. And believe you me, when Gen Z starts entering the political process, they'll be putting boomers onto ice flows instead of cupping their balls to ease their transition into the afterlife.

None of it really makes sense.

And I suspect that it is because it is all total lying bullshit. 😺

I don't think it is all total lying bullshit.
I just think they switched out German or Spanish or something for Arabic in the Modern Languages program.

It's like when someone said they were killing the 15th century art program at Harvard or something and it turned out the only thing they were doing was withdrawing it for a year to retool the curriculum so that it included non-Western art from the 15th century. (Because China and Africa and so on were also making art at that time.)

You are a sick joke.
I don't advocate for the war to continue waiting for a ceasefire so more Gazans can die like you. That is sick. I advocate a Hamas surrender so the war can stop immediately.
I don't post death porn, gruesome images or exploit the suffering of Gazan children, like you do. That is sick.
I don't call for a race (Jews) to be driven into the sea, Hitler's "final solution", like you do. That is sick.

Unfortunately, you are not joking in any of these cases. You are serious and it's no joke.

So looking at your page, there, in secondary school there are 4 types. (Student can select which path to follow.)

  • Technical Secondary Education
  • Vocational Secondary Education
  • Art Secondary Education
and the fourth is the one that offers Modern Languages.

General Secondary Education
(Dutch: Algemeen Secundair Onderwijs; ASO; French: Enseignement Secondaire général): A very broad, general education, preparing for higher education. Once students have completed all six years, it is expected that they will continue studying (e.g.: university or college). Possible directions include (combinations of): ancient Greek and Latin, Modern Languages (stressing French and Dutch, English, German, and sometimes optional Spanish), Sciences (chemistry, physics, biology and geography), Mathematics, Economics, and Human Sciences (psychology, sociology, media).
So it seems that one of those languages (English, German, or Spanish) was replaced with Arabic.

So one language in one "direction" in one "type" at one specifc secondary school is Arabic.\
About as elective as can be.

Obviously the onset of sharia law and the complete collapse of Western culture beneath the Islamic horde.

First step is learning to say "Good morning, class!" in Arabic.

Second step is stoning your mom to death for not wearing a hijab later that same morning and learning to make suicide bombs after lunch.

Because its close enough between rump and Harris that she can make a massive difference.
