You're probably right, but why does it have to be Kamala? That's what has many Democrats gnashing their teeth. How do you sort out who would be a Biden replacement? Does Kamala deserve to be the default nominee? Or can the Chicago convention be an open one where the candidates meet and present to the delegates? Don't forget the protesters outside who will try to get inside.

Because the republicans have funneled millions into trying to make her look incompetent already. She isn't white and she is a woman so no right leaning American would vote for her. I am no political scientist but I thought that Biden should have picked a different VP this time around and this was long before the worst debate in history for Teo presidential candidates. Neither Trump nor Biden should be there. Both have slipped considerably mentally- Trump moreso than Biden. The problem is Trumps rabid delusional base will come out to vote while the peolle that would vote for Biden will stay home out of Disgust that there is nobody worth voting for

Nobody escapes declining cognitive in their late 70s. It's definitely noticeable to some degree in everyone I have known that hits that age.

Trump's decline doesn't seem to be as severe as Biden's in my opinion. We've had eight years of Trump to know he's going to be blustering and controversial. People didn't like it in 2016 and now they're trying to convince us it's a factor of decline. No, it's just Trump without a filter.

It doesn't matter. Biden is in the hot seat. I don't think redirection (to Trump's age) is really an option at this moment. A younger Democratic nominee can certainly make the case though.

I don't know where these millions have been spent to attack Kamala. The conservative media cabal mostly reaches people that aren't voting for Biden or Kamala under any circumstances. Now that Biden's age is on trial, I'm sure the Kamala attack ads will be out. A lot of it is in the fair boundaries of campaigning.

In fairness, Trump and the Republicans don't really know who they are running against.

Look at Trump speaking in 2015 and look at him now. Biden was always stumbling and bumbling but he has gotten worse lately. Truth is both of these geezers probably belong in a nursing home. Its a massive advantage for democrats if Republicans don't know who they need to attack. It's like an NFL team not naming which QB out of 5 they will start. You can't prepare foe everyone

Yes, I totally agree. However, Dems need to have a plan for the August convention in Chicago sooner than later. Using your sports analogy, you can't just call someone up from the bullpen without some warm-ups. Plus, everyone at the convention needs to know how the game will be played. The utmost fairness needs to be applied or there could be divisions within the party.

One thing to come from yesterday's assassination attempt it has taken Biden and the calls for him to step down off the front page.

The Republican convention starts tomorrow. I expect they will not steer clear of discussing Biden's aging for four days. If they do steer clear, they don't want Biden out of the race.

You can definitely expect them to lay some groundwork against potential Democratic nominees this year or 2028. I'm sure Harris will catch their wrath. And that's okay. That's politics.

I don't think we will able to tell much unless they absolutely never mention Biden's age.
I think it is more likely they will mention it, but it won't be the main theme because "Trump survived an assassination attempt" will be the new theme. (Strength, defiance, etc. as themes).

So I suspect the age will still come up, with maybe more an emphasis on "frailty" than on "he is a pudding brain".
