Tomorrow is the strike deadline for the LCBO.
They have never had a strike before.

The issue is that the LCBO makes $2.5 billion in profit for Ontario and DoFo would rather see that money go to his donors.
He wants to screw over the people, the workers and the provinces finances for his backers.
The issue is that public sector unions are greedy and want to hold the public hostage until their demands are met.

I hope they go on strike so that people realize these unions are useless and a detriment to public services.

No need to reward Drop-Out-Johnny for under achieving on our dime.

Time to privatize the LCBO...this will help. WooHoo!

No, skoob, the workers at the LCBO return $2.5 billion in profit to Ontario.
The issue is that DoFo wants to give that profit to his donors so he can buy another 'cottage'.

Unions are needed now more than ever to fight for fair pay that keeps up with inflation from insane government money printing.

If not for unions, the jobs would go to desperate "new canadians" willing to work for peanuts.

I am not sure about the good or bad of privatization of LCBO. The SAQ in Quebec has also been talking about it for years.

But one thing for sure is that it will not bring more choices. Private vendor of alcohol/wine will get rid of everything except the big selling mark. Yes a few specialty shops will open here and there... Like in the US.

Did you know the LCBO and the SAQ are the 2 biggest single buyers of wine and spirits in all of America? Their buying power is huge. They get the best prices... The problem is they tax it so much to us that we end up paying the highest price in America.

Why are you against paying people well and Ontario getting $2.5 billion back in return?

Skoob is right, LCBO workers should be lined up against the wall and shot. Everything is better privatized, look at the economic miracle of the UK. Premiere Douglas should be like Thatcher and privatize waterworks next.

What is "fair pay"?
Should taxpayers be punished because the government is printing money?

So taxpayers need to pay public employees more, because the people that are responsible for public employees are driving up inflation?
Make that make sense please.

They can continue to be the buyers and distributors...leave retail to the public sector.
They charge a lot of taxes because they have a lot of greedy public sector unions mouths to feed. No reason why it should be taxed so high.

Also no reason why they have to build luxury palaces as stores and over-pay employees.

if Johnny wants to drop out of school and not invest in himself, we shouldn't reward that with a charitable well paying job, great benefits and good pension. And still have to hear Johnny whine about how bad he has it every few years.

Whenever I drop by the LCBO I tease the workers by asking them whether they have received the paper bag for my bottle of scotch that the Premier had promised us. They roll up their eyes but smile politely and say "No Sir, we have yet to receive them." I sense that the mood is grim and reluctantly they might opt for strike action. But all the right wing chatter of privatization, competition and lower prices is poppycock as the price tag on a bottle is almost all taxes which ain't disappearing anytime soon.
You know that for decades in the university sector we used to sit around in the faculty club puffing smugly on our meerschaums and thinking haughtily in our self-delusion that unions were for the trades people. 'Till one day we woke up and realised that was stupid, supercilious and self-destructive. Now, I don't know of any campus where the faculty is not a certified bargaining unit.
So let the right wing capitalist ideologues rant and rave about socialism, communism and goddamned unions.
It was salutory for a change to see a US President visit a picket line. Pity he did not run decades ago.

Paying people well is different than rewarding greedy, under-achievers, who are never happy regardless, and just want more and more, and expect everyone else to pay for the lifestyle they believe they are entitled to.

The Premier doesn't supply the paper bags. The Premier directs the usage of paper bags. The LCBO is responsible to procure and provide them. If they haven't done that yet, it's on them. Maybe it goes against their union rules or something. Maybe they're just slow.

I would rather tax collected on alcohol be used wisely rather than paying under-achieving union workers and building/maintaining retail palaces no one cares about anyway.

Why would you call them underachievers when they send Ontario $2.5 billion a year?
