TTC strike

I have an appointment tomorrow ( Friday) in TO. I can't cancel because I am past the 24 hours notice mark. So I was thinking of train then TTC. But now Auto.
I am so screwed.

I know someone who works downtown from the Scar. If this goes on for any time she is fucked, and she can't afford that kinda of fucking.
Everyone seems to understand and agree that monopolies are a bad thing... yet we get these blind spots and allow unions to use their monopoly position to hold entire cities or even countries hostage.
At least when a union in a private company goes on strike there are alternatives and the market place has a role to play in determining where things settle [unless you get an industry wide cartel like the autoworkers had before the Japanese bent them over the hood of their cars.]
But yeah, wages should be determined by how much you can extort, or in the case of tipping how big your tits are and how white you are.

Unfortunately. Some TTC employees make more than $120K. Mayor Bowwow will go crying to Ford and Truidiot saying Toronto needs more money. Then spends a stupid amount to rename Dundas Street.
It's funny listening to people on the news being interviewed and saying "they're really happy there was no strike"...without realizing their fares and taxes are going to go up as a result and the crappy service won't change.
The Union negotiators know that that Queen’s Park will immediately legislate the TTC back to work the minute that they strike .
Heavy pressure will also come from the Feds as well. The ruling allowing the TTC workers to strike despite being an essential service is a “ paper tiger” and will be circumvented.

I could have used my Tardis to check it out, but it needed repairs and the bloody Union of Tardis repairmen of Gallifrey were on strike... again. It happens all the... time <does Doctor Evil pinky to corner of the mouth>
They're not essential service, one of the courts determined that a few years ago.
Irrelevant. It's extremely rare the membership goes against a tentative agreement. Very rare.
