The NDP love spending other people's money...that's why they will never lead anything other than banning their own members for supporting Palestine.
15 years of Liberal rule in the province did nothing for public transit...your blame is misplaced.

City life breeds people like you who think nothing else exists outside of downtown while you hunker into your shoebox in the sky and trip over homeless people in the streets.
Sure, you always complain about politicians spending money recklessly regardless of party, right?

1) The NDP proposed paying for trucks to use the 407, that would do more for congestion on the 401 than building highways in the country.
2) If you can't bike and the province lets the TTC crumble, how else will people get around?
3) Enjoy your live in suburbia but STFU about telling people who live in the city what they should think, you are clearly clueless about city life.
Those who live in the city are nuts. You drove me out 10 years ago, happily in north york now.

Exactly. Amsterdam doesn't get nearly as much snow as Toronto which means people can use the bike lanes more there. So comparing the two places is not a fair comparison. That was the point you clearly missed.
See when you are pushed into the corner how you try to wiggle your way out. The fact is that the bike lanes and the manner in which they are ploughed are designed to make it safe for the cyclists during a snow storm. Do you think that it is worth risking it in places like Toronto where the bike lanes are at most times have snow dumped in heaps?

Amsterdam has a lower population density than Toronto and it's warmer.
Listen, Amsterdam is slightly more than 1/3 of Toronto area wise. But the population density is only marginally smaller than Toronto!!
The fact is that Amsterdam has proper bike lanes that are well maintained during winter, unlike that of Toronto!!

Actually, I believe more lanes on the 401 are also needed in addition to removing bike lanes to help traffic.
More highways are needed as well.
How are you going to add anymore lanes to the 401, when we already have approximately 6 and sometimes 7 lanes? That is not going to ease the traffic congestion. In Europe they have more disciplined driving than we do in Canada, that speeds up the traffic in less lanes. You do not pass on the blind spot lanes. Once cars pass then they pull over into the slower lanes and that moves the traffic more smoothly on their highways. But we have a 407ETR that is underused in all respects thanks to the screw up by The Provincial Mike Harris Conservatives. The province could have still owned it and charged a reasonable fee like they do in the USA and several other countries around the Globe.

Why should people be forced to live in a congested city rather then being able to live in a house with some property where they don't always have to smell other people's cooking and put up with AirBnB party units in a building?
Then they should move out of the city and travel by Public Transport. We have a pretty poor public transport infrastructure as compared to the UK, France and other EU Nations. But Dougie Boy wants to waste more cash on totally irrelevant Highways, that are causing a stir among residents in that vicinity!!

The 401 is the busiest highway in all of North America.
The NDP proposal to pay fees for trucks to take the 407 and bypass the city would be the smartest move to fix the biggest congestion problem in North America without building a single highway and for way, way less.

But the right wingers won't back it because the idea came from the NDP.

So what you're saying is that bike lanes in Toronto during the winter are useless?
Thanks for agreeing with me on that.

Amsterdam is half the size of Toronto in terms of land area. So you're wrong there.
Amsterdam has 20% more population density than Toronto so you're wrong there again.

Bike lanes work in Amsterdam for various reasons.
Bike lanes don't work in Toronto for various reasons.

Are you following along here? Too complicated?

You really shouldn't talk about things you have no knowledge of, it just makes you look dim.

Bike lanes work great in toronto, people ride all year long downtown.
This year they started plowing some, this will continue to get better.

Somehow you think it's bright idea to shoulder the fee for the trucks to take the 407...Do we have unlimited funds only you know?

407 underused? You may want to check the stats on that. You would be surprised.
Adding lanes in areas where there are usual bottlenecks would help congestion.

You mean the NDP party is proposing to pay the fees themselves out of their own party funds without depending on taxpayers to do so? Wow that's great!

"I'm going to ride my bike from Scarborough to downtown in a snowstorm" said no one ever.

The fact is that Amsterdam is a very old city constructed around the idea of water transport (for freight) and has very little of its precious below sea level land to commit to roads. It has bike lanes because there is no room for cars anyway. Is the result nice or pleasant? No. Just walking across a street in Amsterdam is a harrowing experience! It also makes for very inefficient delivery (unless the business is on one of the canals). Luckily, there are no hills for cyclists when all the land is reclaimed from the sea.

And the number one export of the Netherlands - refined petroleum products! That's not very environmental, is it, Beav? At least they haven't let their own lifestyle limitations blind them to the needs of the rest of the planet.

BTW, number 2 is pharmaceuticals. Figures, as probably everyone there is on anxiety meds!

Amsterdam is a fun place to visit BECAUSE IT IS SO ODDLY LAID OUT. Like a funhouse. It's a good example of WHAT NOT TO DO for modern cities.

p.s. It's considered good luck to throw your bike into a canal in Amsterdam. Thousands do it every year. Maybe that should tell you how much the citizens love biking!

The fact that we have to is only because the conservatives sold off the 407 in the first place.
Which do you think is cheaper, building the 413 or paying truck 407 fees?
