DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - Iran fired air defence batteries early Friday morning after reports of explosions near the city of Isfahan, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.
It remained unclear if the country was under attack. However, tensions remain high in the wider Middle East after Iran's unprecedented missile-and-drone attack on Israel. One government official suggested sites may have been targeted by drones.

IRNA said the defences fired across several provinces. It did not elaborate on what caused the batteries to fire, though people across the area reported hearing the sounds.

The semiofficial Fars and Tasnim news agencies reported the sound of blasts, without giving a cause. State television acknowledged "loud noise" in the area.

Isfahan is home to a major airbase for the Iranian military, as well as sites associated with its nuclear program.

Dubai-based carriers Emirates and FlyDubai began diverting around western Iran about 4:30 a.m. local time. They offered no explanation, though local warnings to aviators suggested the airspace may have been closed.

Iran later announced it grounded commercial flights in Tehran and across areas of its western and central regions. Loudspeakers informed customers of the incident at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, online videos purported to show.

Iranian state television began a scrolling, on-screen alert acknowledging a "loud noise" near Isfahan, without immediately elaborating.

Hossein Dalirian, a spokesman for Iran's civilian space program, said on the X social media platform that several small "quadcopter" drones had been shot down. It wasn't immediately clear where that happened or if it was part of the ongoing incident in Iran.

For supporting an ally?

And how does this attack qualify as a war crime?
Biden reportedly made a deal today that if Netanyahu didn't attack Iran he'd ok genocide in Rafah.
So Netanyahu attacks Iran anyways.

He really wants rump to win.

Seems like Israel chose an ideal response.

Reports have them firing several blue arrow missiles, missiles explicitly designed to test their own air defense systems. They have no warheads and could only cause damage by crashing into the ground.

Iran fired 300 drones and ballistic missiles at Israel and 99% were shot down. Israel showed they could penetrate Iran (and Syria's) air defense and hit what they aimed for without needing to cause any damage or deaths.

Iran has gotten the message and have claimed that they have no desire to retaliate.

Israel started their ground assault on Rafah?
How did that not make the news?

Even assuming that report on a deal is true (which is a stretch given the reporting) your argument is a bit premature, since you need Israel to violate the deal first.

I wrote that message after there were announcements of an attack on Iran.
Turns out it was thee quadracopter drones, which is Israel deescalating and backing down on war.
So Israel has not really broken that deal, or at least they haven't started an all out war.

Israel hasn't launched a ground assault, but they have been bombing Rafah. Who knows if that's all they'll do or this is warmup for an invasion.
Even though things are pretty much the same, there are a lot changes going on right now.

Rumours are there will be ICC charges soon.
But more importantly, Biden just authorized more bombs for genocide.
How that looks next week if there are ICC charges will be interesting, just as university protests are picking up steam there as well.
And whether Netanyahu was waiting for this bill before doing something that might jeopardize is another question.

What is in the aid package for Israel passed by the US House?

The bill allocates $26.38bn to “support Israel in its effort to defend itself against Iran and its proxies”, as well as reimbursing US military operations in response to recent attacks.
The funding includes:

Which still would have been premature, since your whole point was that Bibi made a deal with Biden not to attack Iran for permission to launch their attack on Rafah.
Then you said the fact he made an attack on Iran showed he had played Biden for a chump.
Only the attack on Rafah hadn't happened, which means the whole "He played Biden for a chump" part hadn't happened yet.

That's all I was pointing out.

You never said the scale of the attack was part of the deal, either.
According to your initial formulation, that minor attack still would have counted.

So maybe you should have waited until the thing actually happened before insisting things had proved you right?
Also, do you believe there is a secret US deal or not?

I thought the Ayatollahs said they were small drones, as long as theyàre killing Islamic terrorists its good.

Massive explosion leaves huge crater in Iraqi military base after suspected Israeli strike

An explosion at a military camp in northern Babil province, Iraq, resulted in the death of a member of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and injuries to eight others, the Iraqi Security Media Cell reported on April 20. local media noted.

The blast occurred shortly after midnight at Kalso Camp, which is located along the international road and hosts units from the army, police, and the Popular Mobilization Forces which are believed to be working in league with Iran’s revolutionary guards. The blast comes 24 hours after several Iranian rockets and drones hit Iranian military positions inside the country.

"At one o'clock after midnight last night, an explosion and fire occurred inside Kalso Camp, leading to the death of a member of the Popular Mobilization Forces and injuries to eight others, including an Iraqi army member," the Cell stated in a press release.

Civil defence teams in Babil responded swiftly, preventing the fire from spreading and bringing it under control quickly.

"The civil defence teams in Babil and supporting entities made significant efforts and took swift actions that prevented the fire from spreading further and managed to control it in record time," the statement said.

To investigate the causes of the explosion and fires, a high-level technical committee comprising members from the civil defense and other relevant sectors has been established.

Further clarifying the circumstances of the incident, the Cell conveyed that, according to preliminary data and official statements, there was no indication of aerial activity or military operations in the area at the time.

"Two statements from the international coalition forces in Iraq and the official spokesperson for the Pentagon indicated that there was no aerial activity or military operation in the general area of Babil," the statement noted.

Additionally, the air defence command's technical analysis and radar checks confirmed the absence of any drones or fighter aircraft in Babil's airspace before and during the explosion.

Yup, all correct. I jumped the gun on that one, the posts when it happened made it sound much bigger than it was.

You never said the scale of the attack was part of the deal, either.

Not at all true, by not posting anything about scale I can also declare that doesn't count as an attack in an arbitrary and pedantic reply to a pedantic post.
That my undefined terms were based on the attack coming from outside Iran, something about payload, or something about an attack for show.

So maybe you should have waited until the thing actually happened before insisting things had proved you right?

Why would I do that? I'm always right no matter what happens. Except when I graciously admit I was wrong, as I did earlier in this post.

Did Biden make a deal with Netanyahu? Who knows. Its possible but its also likely not important as Netanyahu is totally untrustworthy and will do what he wants regardless. Bib would likely make a pretend deal like that as the vote for $26 billion genocide weapons was about to happen in the US.

All I know is that Netanyahu is continuing the genocide, today bombing Rafah, home to 1.7 million refugees mostly living in tents.
