In the 4 major North American team sports(hockey, baseball, football, basketball, sorry no pickleball) only 2 players have won back-to-back MVP's, each one with a different team. Who are they?

they both won league MVP with two different franchises, Malone w/ Rockets and 76ers, Messier with Oilers and Rangers.

but again Gretzky has done so w/ Oilers and Kings, and Peyton Manning too with Colts and Denver so maybe it is not that unique.

Good answer, but not what I was looking for.

Last active player from a defunct professional league, (WHA and ABA)?
CORRECT!!!
More specifically, they were the last active players from a defunct major sports league in the league that took it over(as opposed to the minor leagues).

Mark Messier and Moses Malone's achievements are NOT unique. There would also be a 'last man standing' from the Basketball Association of America and from the All-American Football Conference. I'm guessing that the last AAFC player in the NFL was Y.A. Tittle.

The 1960-69 American Football League wouldn't count, because it merged with the NFL, and the Federal League wouldn't count in Baseball because no franchises played in both. In the four cases I mentioned, some, but not all of the franchises from the defunct league joined as expansion teams.
