There is your problem right there…listening to politicians and cable/network news show will stress you out…
Actually my 26 year old Uber driver last night. And my family members, and friends. And an overheard(loud) conversation while watching UFC at the bar. That's just this weekend.

The Canadian economy desperately needs immigration. Last year immigrants brought in $ 22 billion and took around ~ 300, 000 jobs that “Canadians, either cannot or will not do. Industry in Canada desperately needs immigration .
Maher talks about pushing the middle to the right.…………………Poilievre is if he becomes PM is going to face crushing demands for increased social services by those that elected him which is huge irony andrecipe for disaster if he doesn’t deliver. More immigration is a necessity for Canada as a very large percentage of the population is set to retire with insufficient numbers to replace them unless immigration is ramped up even more than it is now. The productivity in the Canada workplace is also decreasing..
Canada by bringing in huge numbers from India has found a patch to the job vacancies in the economy, unlike the US, the UK and other European countries which have major holes in the workplaces due to lack of skilled and unskilled workers.

I'll tell you what I am not. I am not an old married guy, with a dog, whose wife wont fuck him, that he spends all day on TERB, blaming immigrants for it. 🐸
Immigrants have been getting all the good fruit picking jobs except for ice wine grapes. The wife has an immigrant pool boy?

You would rather I drive?

And yes, I'm in a good position. Others aren't. Because of policy.

it is overtly simplistic to say - high immigration, high demand, high prices and therefore the solution is to reduce immigration drastically.
Occam's Razor. Everyone gets priced out, immigrant and Canadian born alike.

There would be no need to reduce immigration levels if they hadn't increased so much in the first place.

Well, someone who has impact on something important put Canadian real estate out of reach of the young generation.
I think it’s pretty fucked up
It's a good thing they don't have to get their credit card out at the hospital.

Occam's razor would suggest that we build more houses. We are building less houses today, than we did in 1971, when the population was HALF of what it is today. Also 1M immigrants are not taking up 1M homes, and a lot of them move into existing housing with existing relatives. So demand is not the major driver of housing affordability. Supply side issues are the problem.

Basically what I am saying is that even if you cut immigration by 75%, it will only likely have a minimal impact on housing prices. Because we are simply not building enough houses.

We don't need more immigration, we need smarter policies.

''If canada was an apartment...The lead feature might be America adjacent''

Wowzers this how the U.S. views Mr. Trudeau's mess that he has created.
I find it hard to believe that even with the Alberta/Northern Ontario fires of last summer that Canadian cities had the worst air pollution in North America in 14 of the top 15 cities.

No Fucking Way.

What takes longer? To build one house, or for ten immigrants to board a plane? How long does it take to build that house, and how long does the flight take? Can all ten immigrants arrive on a single flight?
Also 1M immigrants are not taking up 1M homes, and a lot of them move into existing housing with existing relatives.
How about 100 immigrants? If they all arrive on the same flight, can we shove them all into a single house?

As with everything else, there are limits. And we are pushing them, to the detriment of all parties involved.

But that is overtly simplistic though. It is not like there are no houses to rent. Let us say those 100 immigrants are like 30 households. There are 30 houses to rent right now in Toronto if I look on condos.ca. And these 100 immigrants (and using them as a replacement for 1M), are not just coming to Toronto, they are immigrants to Canada. So let us say only 25% of them come to Toronto. So now, you have about 8 households that we need. That is possible even at this time, no?

Also we dont build 1 house at a time, we built 1000s at a time. How many condos are being built right now in Toronto? Atleast 10 buildings? Each condo has atleast a 100 units? And these condos are getting built in a matter of months these days.

In any case I dont disagree there is an impact to more people coming in but population increase and immigration are natural and they impact everything. Not just housing. So what is the cost benefit there? We dont have an analysis of any of these things today. I mean what if reducing immigration reduces demand and builders stop building houses? Our housing crisis may actually get worse?
