That's not what he's saying. He's stating facts. Cost of housing, hospital wait times etc have all Increased significantly over the past few years.
You can have a slow and steady pace of immigration. But when you bring in so many, so fast, you're going to put a lot of strain on existing resources.
Take your emotions out of the equation and consider his argument logically.
My argument is that the effect of immigration on housing prices, although is stated widely in the news and in social media because it seems like common sense, is actually poorly studied. I am yet to see analysis that shows what the actual impact of immigration on housing prices really is because housing prices are affected by both demand and supply side pressures. So I think Bill is being overtly simplistic here. And that has always been my argument, because why are people ignoring the fact that fewer houses have been built in recent years, than in the early 70s?!
That has to be the 2nd dumbest thing, after Mandrill's "Hamas killed 35000 Palestinians" quip, I have read on this board in the last week.
Americans wave the flag saying “greatest country on earth” and yet all they do is complain complain complain about it and nobody complains more than Bill Maher.

Yes, but building housing supply takes time. You could bring a million new immigrants in over five years, or in a single year.
The impact will not be the same, even though the total number of immigrants is the same.
Oh well if Bill Maher said something then by all means action should be taken...did anyone catch where his next comedy show is playing, love how he always finishes his show by announcing where he will be appearing.
I’m more than happy with my life/situation in Canada…I don’t need a professional complainer like Bill Maher bringing me down.
I'm not sure what bubble you are in, but just mention Trudeau with housing and immigration and see the reponse in most people.
They are indeed stressed about it.
If people need a doctor they could probably see one the same or next day, either their family doctor or the emergency department at a hospital.
People buy houses knowing it will only rise in value over the years…same for years as wages go up with it.
There is your problem right there…listening to politicians and cable/network news show will stress you out…
Well a million immigrants are not taking up a million homes. Which is why I said, we need an analysis on what the impact of immigration is on demand and how much it impacts housing prices. And then there is the question of how much do we reduce immigration by, because what if reducing it drastically kills real estate? So again, it is overtly simplistic to say - high immigration, high demand, high prices and therefore the solution is to reduce immigration drastically. I mean it could be a solution, but there is no analysis I have seen, that justifies it as THE solution.
Well, someone who has impact on something important put Canadian real estate out of reach of the young generation.
