His bat in the middle of the lineup last season was such a rally killer. And he wasn't moving runners with ground balls, fly balls, etc. Just watching center cut 95mph heaters blow by him.
Biggio showed decently at 3B in limited time. Can't expect Chapman level D, but I'll take Biggio's OBP all day over Chapman

I like the move to get this Cuban pitcher.

While starting pitching is our strength, we have limited system depth in this area. And these guys are not exactly that young anymore either. It's a nice flyer to take on a guy who is in his prime age.

We have 2 high variability starters in Manoah and Kikuchi, and even Berrios to an extent. And the Jays were very lucky with the health of their starters last year with basically no injuries -- although Gausman, Berrios and Bassitt are known for being durable guys.

But if everyone is healthy, and Tiedemann is ready say July 2024, then there could be a logjam. But its a good problem to have.
It also signals that a Manoah trade is more likely now.

Its disappoint that they haven't gotten any bats yet, but there are still a number of RHB decent power bats out there still (Soler, Martinez, Turner or a few lefties) -- the market has been really slow on these guys. These should also surpass the offensive production of super clutch choker Matt Chapman. I'll assume we get one (should have tried for two) -- if not its a disaster.

As an aside, I would rather use guys like IKF, Biggio, Schneider, and our prospects at third base, and get a better bat than Chapman at DH or OF. SAY NO TO CHAPMAN!

That’s crazy. It doesn’t look like Cody Bellinger has any real interest. Him and his agent are too stubborn to come down in asking price, and he has no takers. This is for a former MVP and World Series champion. Last I heard players on the Cubs were almost signing a petition to ownership to re-sign him lol.

If they really are looking for an 8 year contract then i would say there is no interest in him. I"d be ok with the Jays offereing a 3 or 4 year contract, but no more than that.

It is possible to have a nagging injury that doesn’t necessarily keep you out of the lineup, but seriously diminishes your ability to perform well. Roger Clemens comes to mind in his last couple of years in Boston (The Rocket always comes to my
mind lol…. Andy Pettitte was no real friend).

I challenge anyone to watch starts from him in 1986 and do an eye test, and tell me that’s not AT LEAST 106 mph today. First time through the order was utterly devastatingly overpowering. By the time he was with the Blue Jays for the 97 and 98 season, this man was easily throwing 100 mph by today’s standards. So when they say he maintains 95 mph until the ninth inning, or that he throws harder as the game goes along, in 1997, that means he’s throwing about as hard as who really knows by today’s standards. Clemens was the greatest pitcher to ever live lol. I have such a difficult time talking about the Blue Jays in any regard and not mentioning Roger Clemens at least once every three months.

Dammit why don’t they make them like Clemens anymore. He was so unbelievable for those two years in Toronto.

Awesome. I was at the game against the Chicago White Sox….. I kept telling my friend, these Toronto fans have no idea who this is. I’ll never forget, he struck out Albert Belle with a called strike splitter I think for his last recorded out. I’m like wow this guy is for real lol. A team with Joe Carter, Carlos Delgado, Roger Clemens… I can’t believe they weren’t better than they were.

I was obsessed with Clemens in Boston as well. Him becoming a Jay was very exciting for me. Over there I was a pitcher in the 90s, it was easy to like him.

If he can do what he did last year its a solid addition. Not the all the is great now guy, but he will help if he can get close to 2023 (which at 39 might not be that easy). 273/23/96 in the traditional stats, OPS+ of 114

I'm hoping the salary is reasonable enough so we can get one more hit first player.

That's a positive for me. Post April 2023, Chapman was useless at the dish. I'm not sure any player frustrated me more at the plate last year.
And his glove, while very good, was diminishing.

I'm sure Turner goes into the mix at 3rd for some games, but I think most of his playing time will be at DH.
I think the plan for the Jays is IKF, Biggio, Schneider, a few other AAA prospects (Martinez, Barger) to get the job done at third.

Justin Turner is a better fit for the Blue Jays than Cody Bellinger who could turn into another Matt Chapman. Last season was frustrating for Vladdy, he had to chase junk pitches. Pitchers didn't care if they walked him, the next batter was an almost automatic out.
