Whether you are an owner or a renter, get ready to pay more property taxes.

They raised property tax 7% last year and have nothing to show for it. The first thing that needs to be cut is the council itself for not being able to manage finances properly.
But they have money to burn renaming squares so the money is there...time to start cutting things, first of which is councilors.

Not a surprise...Chow's plan has always been to pay for her Communistic ideology with other people's money rather than managing finances properly.
7% increase a year ago and somehow that money has disappeared...except for the "virtue signal fund" that apparently has cash to burn renaming squares and streets.

and the same people that complain about rents being too high won't figure out that rent will increase as a result. They probably think more property taxes will result in rent decreasing. Poor saps.
Same people who think the carbon tax doesn't affect everything being more expensive but willingly pay it to save the planet.

Good. It's well documented that Toronto's property taxes are low compared to other cities. It's about time. Toronto needs to suck it up and stop whining about having no $. Why should the rest of Ontario need to pay for their parsimony.

One of many sources

According to Zoocasa, the five cities with the lowest property tax rates in 2021 were all located within the Greater Toronto Area.
Toronto had the lowest property tax rate in 2021 at 0.61 per cent, followed by Markham at 0.63 per cent.

For comparison, Waterloo's tax rate is around 1.2% in 2023 IIRC.

But there is money in Toronto! How do you think they pay to rename public squares and streets?

Right, nothing to do with global inflation.

At least Chow has uploaded the DVP and Gardiner

Uploaded it?
Does that mean that your taxes are no longer paying for it?

Where did the 7% property tax we've been paying go? Inflation rate for 2023 was 3.1%. You want to blame squandering more than double that on inflation? Lol!

They got money to build bike lanes and rename Dundas Square though. Are our taxes really that low when you include water, garbage and parking fees?

Torontos economy subsidizes all of ontario. who do you think pays for those highways ?
who do you think paid for the 400 series which is the busiest highway and delivers more commerce than anywhere in North America. Also gets and needs the most maintenance and snow removal etc.speaking of which, who paid for the army to clear it one snowy day…

Who paid for the 407, and everything else that brought and brings people and companies to the 416/905 in first place? Why do you think all the immigrants go there, youth from small town Ontario, and even adults..why do you think you have a housing crises in the first place.

You think all those companies with high paying jobs located in the 416/905?because it was a pig sty and has nothing they need and want?

Who pays for all the Hydro infrastructure so astronauts can see the “Golden Horseshoe” from the moon at night?

Where do you think the vast vast majority of public servants like nurses, teachers, doctors, and more live and work. Where do you think all the government beuracrats and pencil pushers, biologists, scientist and PSWs and lawyers, and more live and work…

Where do you think the vast majority of corporate welfare goes so companies with high paying jobs will come or stay….Who paid for world class hospitals and more…speaking of which who pays for all the research grants, operations, organ transplants, where are all the cancer and trauma centers and more…

Why do you think the province is 400 billion in debt? Why do you think the city of Toronto and now feds are in debt up to their eyeballs too…Also just one big happy coincidence no doubt.

Fairies?
Look around Canada, how many world class cities do you see….answer is one….you think that shit is free?….watch a movie called field of dreams…

And while the city itself is “world class”, its residents think they are all that, and have none at all…hence why everyone else in Canada calls you the center of the universe.

get a clue?

I’d also bet a lot of money you be one of the first on the left to howl about socioeconomics, and bitch about the greedy rich and trickle down being a scam. Not grasping you can change the word down to out…

A budget is not an audit. An audit verifies where the actual money went and not where it was supposed to go.
Soooo? Where did the money go?

They raised property taxes every year but 2011. Mostly in line with inflation and more than real wage increases. That is prudent management.

2011 - 0% (Ford)
2012 - 2.5% (Ford)
2013 - 2% (Ford)
2014 - 1.6% (Ford)
2015 - 2.75% (Tory)
2016 - 1.9% (Tory)
2017 - 2% (Tory)
2018 - 2.1% (Tory)
2019 - 2.55% (Tory)

Olivia should double the property tax, that will fix the problem. More taxes is always the only solution.

Cyclists (and pedestrians) also pay taxes and cause less wear and tear on our roads than other alternative transport.
"Alternative transport" like delivery vehicles that ensure stores and companies get what they need to do business, provide for people and create jobs?
Can everyone ride a bike or walk to work outside of the city core?
How about bike lane utilization during winter months?

Appeasement of a few and punishment of the many is what our council has created.
