From the IDF statements it sounds like Hamas didn't expect to get past the concentration camp walls and had no plans past that.
But if they did take hostages to exchange for prisoners it would be a waste of time.
Israel is just picking up just as many Palestinians and Palestinian children as they release in the West Bank.
What else is Israel supposed to do to defend itself?
HAMAS will launch raids like 7 October repeatedly to rape, torture, kidnap and kill Israeli civilians, including the very old and the very young. Israel has to defend itself. If HAMAS surrounds itself with human shields, Israel has no alternative but to shoot anyway. Anything else simply allows HAMAS to come back for further raids into Israel.
