You can't evaluate a trade like this for years to come. Right now it looks bad, but Moreno still has to prove himself for years to come, and Varsho still has a chance to become a better player.

Don't forger, Moreno wasn't going to get any playing time so they kind of had to trade him.
You don't have to trade a player unless they want out or are a pending free agent. Yes they had catcher depth but they were very high on Moreno and so were the D-Backs

You left out another reason to make a trade. You have needs in one area and a surplus in another.

The Jays need to make a “wow” move to maintain my interest lol…..cuz I’ll tell ya, right now I don’t give a flying fuck about this team.

Again do you trust Russ Atkins to trade Bo Bichette. Of course the Cubs would jump at the chance.

I'm not against trading any Jay for the right players... but given where the Jays are at now, the deal can't be for futures... it has to be for established MLB talent that you would need to argue could make us better now. And those are hard to make - and are controversial.

I don't really see a deal, but I will give an example of something management might view as attractive if they are trying to win now.

I'm looking at the good Cubs established position players . The only thing I could see Toronto management justifying is something like Dansby Swanson+ another young good player that is already MLB established to a decent level (Nico Hoerner or Chris Morel). And that is only because we know management seems to highly value players with significant defensive value based on recent moves (Matt Chapman, Daulton Varsho, KK). For example Bo's WAR is 4.9, and Swanson's is 4.8. It is only close because of Swanson's defence.

Dansby Swanson is far superior to Bo Bichette defensively (he has 2 gold gloves), but he is also the far inferior hitter that is 4 years older and turning 30 in February, with 6 years left at $160 million. Our hitting coaches tend to makes these average hit, great glove players, hit worse so it makes them extremely frustrating.

Would I do that trade - no. That contract from his 30 to 35 season could easily turn into an albatross.
But I do know management likes great gloves, likes acquiring "smart" players for those who make many mistakes (like Bo), and likes cost control (and Dansby has a fixed long term contract and Bo does not).

Seriously the Bluejays trading Bo this is the media at there best again. Have you ever heard Bo wanting to be traded. Also he probably has a no trade clause in his contract.

Matt Chapman was a certified rally killer after May, the main reason why Vlady kept chasing garbage.

I'm sure Cito and Dwayne Murphy had an influence but nothing beats a fellow peer...if he's sincere. Pat Hentgen told the story of the time he ball tossed with Robbie. At the time Hentgen had been called up, he was getting rocked. Robbie asked him to ball toss with him, Pat found it strange since he and Robbie hadn't even spoken before. After half and hour, Robbie ran the ball in and told the rookie pitcher he was tipping his pitches. Changed the course of Pat Hentgen's career.

Robbie needs to be restored to the circle of excellence.

I agree with Wilner. Ben Wagner paid his dues and did a great job under difficult circumstances. I hope he lands somewhere where the circumstances are much better for him. He'll be missed.
