Geez Oracle, if the Yanks went with a 2 man rotation this year they'd be battling the Orioles for first place.
Not with a team batting avg of .226 no....I was discussing with other Yankee fans the other day. Considering how poor their hitting has been and the injuries to their pitching. Being 4 games above .500 is actually pretty good. I can't argue with Boone's job he's done this year at all.

Is that a good omen for next year?

Well they have 4 or 5 rookies in the lineup every night now . So they are gaining valuable experience.

They have the money to go out and get free agents. They are stacked at AA.Somerset finished 30 games above .500. But those guys are about 2 years away.

Problem for the East is the Orioles are legit. Tampa just keeps chugging as well.

Stanton. D.J and Rizzo are declining quickly and are big tickets....Yikes.

Honestly top to bottom The Jays are a much better team than the Yankees...Even when they are healthy.

Jays have the best defensive outfield I have seen since Pinson, Flood and Brock. Infield is solid as well. Bichette has really upped his game this year. Kudos to him. Vladdy is dynamite at first.

Jays are in fine form tonight. No team can knock them off their game plan. They're being 1-hit and shut out through 6 so far. They're on their way to being shout out for the 12th time since some time in June. They lead the majors.

Nobody can force them to score runs if they don't want to. LOL

yup. Looks like the real offence showed up again. This is what concerns me even if we make the playoffs. If a pitcher is half decent, the jays cant score, and you don't face many bad pitchers in the playoffs.

I've read/heard that Baltimore will not be able to financially hold on to all the guys that broke through this year.

I find it hard to believe Stanton will continue to play this poorly next year. He may have bottomed out this year.

Jays have great defence, but wildly inconsistent offense.

So here's a question I don't know the answer too...But you might be able to source it out. Marcus Semien is close to 30hr's and 100 rib's as a leadoff hitter. I don't think he's batted in any other position this year. Has this ever been done before?
I think that Ronald Acuña Jr. has only batted leadoff for the Atlanta Braves this year. Acuña Jr. has more than 40 home runs and 100 + RBIs. Mookie Betts has 39/ 106 for this year's Los Angeles Dodgers. Bobby Bonds had 33/102 for the 1971 Giants and 37/115 for the 1977 Angels. It is very possible that Bonds and Betts batted leadoff in all of their games played in each of those seasons.

Aaaron Judge might have had 30/100 during the games when he batted leadoff in 2022.

So yes, it has been done, probably.

It might also have been done by someone in the 1930's; there were some huge offensive numbers across both leagues in that decade.

This will probably be more common in the future, since both leagues now use a designated hitter.

Has Giancarlo Stanton ever thrown his back out? When he was at his peak, his swing was vicious, eventually it catches up to you. That's why Dante corrected Bo's swing, it was so violent back problems would become inevitable. Stanton may be done, his swing is timid now. He's missed 234 games on the IL in the last four seasons. Nobody bothered to correct his swing.

I think Stanton has Jack Clark Disease, ie: his muscles are too tight, and he doesn't warm up enough before games. Most of his injuries are related to pulled muscles, here, there and everywhere.

Instead of lifting huge amounts of weight a couple of times, he should be doing many reps of low weights, so his muscles won't be as big, but they won't be as fragile. Hank Aaron used to do tons of wrist curls at a medium weight, and he knew a think or too about hitting a ball far and staying healthy at the same time. I think Stanton is more concerned with how he looks in the mirror than he ought to be.

Guys who bench press 400 lbs impress each other in the gym, but people laugh at them if they try to tie a tie or shoe laces, pour a cup of coffee or clap their hands.

Hank Aaron and Sean Connery shared something in common, both were obsessed with calisthenics.

As for Mr Snuggles (Barry Bonds) he always had a very fluid swing, he never tried to rip the cover off the ball like Stanton did. This is why he should be in the HOF.

Giancarlo's problem, in Miami he used to train with The Rock.

Hank Aaron doing endless wrist curls, I believe it. He needed the forearm strength for the 200 push ups he routinely did.

Fuckin' Romano.
His teammates were afraid to score runs because then he'd just come in and blow it. Why waste the effort?

Is there anything Stanton hasn't injured?

The 1968 world series went 7 games between Detroit and St. Louis. For the Tigers, Denny McLain started 3 games, Mickey Lolich started 3 games........who was the other starter?

If there was a dh in the 60s, Don Drysdale might have been that eras Ohtani. There were some other good hitting pitchers too
In 1970 Bob Gibson hit .303 in 124 PA.
His OBP was .347.
In that same year he was 23-7 and won the Cy Young.

But his best year was 68. He went 22-9, won the CY with an era of (are you sitting down?)1.12. This is probably the best most dominant year a starter has ever had. He pitched 304 innings with 28 complete games and 13 shutouts. He also won the MVP that year. I remember at the time players saying he threw harder in the 8th and 9th innings.
His WHIP in 68 was 0.853. And thats over 304 innings.

Just to add about Gibson because he pitched in that 68 series mentioned above.
In 67 series he was 3-0 with 3 CG and 1 SO and era of 1.00.
In 68 series he was 2-1 with 3 CG, 1 SO and era of 1.67. They lost that WS to the Tigers.
His whip in 67 series was 0.704
In 68 series was 0.815

"28 complete games"
Back in the days when starters finished what they started.

Gibson signed with the Cardinals after his College career, and played one year with the Harlem Globetrotters, (1957-58), in the off season when he was in the minors. He also won nine Gold Gloves for his fielding.

I was fortunate to see him play in person at Jarry Park. I also saw Bob hit a home run at Exhibition Stadium in an Oldtimer's game in 1987, when he was 52.

Teams beat Gibson when they scored early in the game. It was VERY hard to score runs against him late in a game, which is a big reason why he had so many complete games.
