Just wondering if any of you guys here are on any meds for BPH? I'm slowly coming around to accept the fact that I may need to try meds out as I'm getting up more frequently at night. Which meds have worked well and which ones have not?
I have been taking flomax for about 10 years, I am now 82, you are right regarding erections being difficult but the big problem I noticed while on this med is when you ejaculate, your semen does not shoot out but instead goes into your bladder. So, if I do go for a massage, (once a month), I don't take it for a couple days before. It sucks getting old.Initially my urologist put me on a combo of Flomax and Avodart. They worked well but it was almost impossible to get an erection. I told him that I'm not ready to give up my sex life. He took me off the Avodart and now the Flomax on it's own seems to be adequate.
Flomax apparently has had reports of interfering with sexual function while other BPH meds in its class has not but are more costlyInitially my urologist put me on a combo of Flomax and Avodart. When you skip the Flomax, do your BPH symptoms return and if yes, how long does it take for them to become managed again upon restarting the meds?I have been taking flomax for about 10 years, I am now 82, you are right regarding erections being difficult but the big problem I noticed while on this med is when you ejaculate, your semen does not shoot out but instead goes into your bladder. This is interesting -- wonder what if one usually takes 10 mg Cialis for mongering - then just double the dose for that day?I take Cialis 5mg for BPH. It's a win-win. Not as effective as Flomax maybe but avoids the erection issue you get with other meds. Although, when I was on Flomax, erections were not an issue.
I also had the no semen on ejaculation issue with Flomax but didn't mind it too much as the sensation was still there (without the clean up).
If the BPH symptoms aren't too severe, I would advise asking urologist about the 5mg Cialis. It is a daily dose.
Problem there is the 10mg pills are a lot pricier. The 5mg is set up like birth control pills, a pack of 28 and costs about $130.00 per month. I am pretty certain that buying 28 10 mg pills will set you back a lot farther (or even 14 pills as that sounds like your plan). This is interesting -- wonder what if one usually takes 10 mg Cialis for mongering - then just double the dose for that day?
Can you just take two 5 mg tabs for the days you are sexually active then just the single 5 mg for other days?Problem there is the 10mg pills are a lot pricier. Now, when my wife and I have a date with either a third or an SP, I usually take an additional 10mg pill that day (cutting a 20mg pill in half) as my doctor also gave me a prescription for 20mg pills for an occasional boost to avoid ED (I would buy 4 - 100mg pills that would be 8 dosages and that would last me a few months depending on how often I need them).
In your experience with Flomax, do you find that you need to stop taking it a couple of days in advance or simply cut it 24 hours in advance? How soon after starting it up again will your symptoms be in control again? You're trading off a good night's sleep for good sex. I can schedule my sex for a couple of times a week and stop the Flomax a couples of days in advance...lose a couple of nights sleep, and then renew the Floxmax after the sex. You can have good sex and good sleep, just not at the same time. My doc is OK with this regimen.
I suppose you could. Maybe its my OCD or something but I would rather know that my 5mg prescription is to be refilled every four weeks on the same day of the week. Stupid habit. Plus, you may lose track of when to refill if you are randomly doubling your dose. Can you just take two 5 mg tabs for the days you are sexually active then just the single 5 mg for other days?
Oh this is great to know because I use the 100 mg V as well in halves to take the 50 mg and knowing there is no interaction between it and something for BPH is most certainly good to know.I suppose you could. Also, I would prefer the 10mg boost over a 5 mg boost for a total of 15 on that day. Its not very often that I need to do that so it just works better for me.
Now, I have also gotten a prescription from my family doctor for 100mg Viagra which I would cut in half and take the 50mg as a boost to replace the 10mg Cialis (still taking the 5mg daily though). I also do this rarely, maybe one to two times a month just for some added vigor. The two do not interfer with each other and their should not be any problems if you do it once in a while and not often. My family doctor does know that my urologist prescribed the 5mg daily Cialis so he is aware that I take the other.
Be aware that ED can be a delayed side effect of Propecia. Merck says it is rare. I think they have been very slow to warn consumers.I've been prescribed Propecia and Proscar. I also noticed my hair is growing back.
When I first started it, I couldn't get busy at all. I had to cut the pill and consume it throughout the day. I work in a job where a bald head is frowned upon. You can say that againSorry old timers, sounds like getting old is really pissing you off.
My experience, but YMMV, is that the positive impacts of Flomax happen almost immediately...in other words, if I take it around 6 pm after laying off of it for a few days, my sleep improves that night. It's even better the following night. Regarding the negative effects, I would say it takes a couple of days before ejaculation returns to normal. In my case, Flomax doesn't cause ED...I'm always ready in that regard...it's the all important release that's missing. In your experience with Flomax, do you find that you need to stop taking it a couple of days in advance or simply cut it 24 hours in advance? Still beats the alternative.Sorry old timers, sounds like getting old is really pissing you off.
